Far too busy
Unfortunately we won't be visiting this course again on our annual Algarve visit. It is always far too busy, resulting in very slow rounds (once took six hours!). This year on the par 3 7th there were 4 people on the green and 12 waiting on the tee. If you want a buggy they?ll have run out and despite the long round, no-one comes out with drinks.Reviewer Rating

Not worth a visit, so many better courses
Lets get the good stuff out the way. Credit where its due the course was a good test with some testing little holes, However..Club house is not welcoming at all. Hardly any staff working. One barman who was miserable . One of the worst golf clubhouses I've been in, my back gardens shed is more friendly. A drink was €5 and a packet of crisps was €3. Beyond EXPENSIVE.
Course itself was average at best, nothing special. Course maintenance was below average, basically the same as a public course at home in the UK. The round was very slow , 5 hours. Buggies were poor as my buggy gave up half way through.
Finished our round at 5. No food was in clubhouse . As the kitchen stopped serving at 5 o'clock (on a Saturday). Only one tele had the Manchester Derby on . even though the clubhouse had like 4 televisions. Barman refused to put any more on.
WOULD NOT GO BACK.

There are bad experiences that are unfortunate and then there are those are pure & simply very poor mismanagement; unfortunately our group experienced the latter. With a tee time of 1.48 we turned up appron one hour beforehand to have lunch and enjoy the ambiance of the place. We were told on arrival that buggies would be available on if available 15 mins before our tee time. Fifteen mins before our tee time we enquired but told there wasn't any, not a problem as trolleys were available. Then the problem started; on proceeding to the first tee we found a group of 32 golfers still waiting for buggies....we told the Marshall that we may as well go first and give the group chance to get some buggies in the bank. But we were told this wasn't an option meaning in some cases 15 mins between tee times whilst the group waited for buggies back. We eventually tee'd off some 1hr 20mins late to find a course that was very short, with no sand in bunkers, greens with inconsistent speeds and ridiculous amounts of unrepaired pitch marks. Fairways were generally OK but tee boxes were poor, especially the par three tees. We complained to the staff there at the clubhouse ans were simply told to take it up with our Golf Agent. It isn't even high season yet so what it will be like next month beggars belief. One thing for certain is that our Society will NEVER visit the Pestana courses again. This course apparently had the same course ratings at Penina which was interesting as we played there the following day, is there another course in Portugal with the same name as the difference between the two was staggering.....AVOID at ALL costs!

Forces to play with 2 strangers because we were a party on 10....could understand if course was busy but it wasnt. Ended playing with 2 beginners & having a painful slow ROG.

Our round was initially cancelled due to maintenance scheduled on the day we were due to play. On the new date, the course was undergoing maintenance! This is a tricky course for high handicappers. Signage isn't great either. lots of unmarked dog-legs.

Tough course
I found this course pretty tough, but mainly because the greens had recently been dressed and were very slow and inconsistent. The fairways are a bit hilly in places and I would not like to walk it. Unfortunately my husband and I got caught behind a very slow 3 ball and with the lack of a Marshall the round was very very slow.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 89 Handicap: 17.1)

This is a decent course that I've played a few times over the years. The condition of the course this year was the worst I've seen it. Not terrible by any means, just a little shabby. The greens, in particular, were quite fluffy and very slow. The layout of the course is interesting and there are some very good holes. Elevation change is well used on the course without it feeling hilly.\\Good service at the clubhouse, with a tasty buffet breakfast available.
