Praia D'El Rey Golf & Beach Resort
It is certainly one of the most picturesque layouts in Europe, set in extensive grounds of pine forest and undulating dunes with spectacular views over the Atlantic and the Berlenga Islands beyond. The course is visually stunning and tremendously exciting to play. Because of the endless variations of the terrain you'll never play it the same.Contact Information

My cousin Ray and I played this course last November (2007) the course was in excellent condition considering it was the end of the season, the greens are fast and testing, the layout challenging and the signature par 3 eighth was just so inviting on our last day we played off all the tees, yellow, white and championship! with mixed results.
The coursse plays as two courses, the front nine are set back from the coast with tree lined fairways more parkland, the back nine follow the atlantic coast and are more links like, if the golf's not going well just enjoy at the scenery and clement weather!!!
While we were there (5days) we had the course to ourselves for all but 1 day and could play 36 holes a day no problem! The downside was the lack of nightlife although I think they were still developing the site and there was talk of a second course being developed a short distance away, the bar/restaurant was good, the menu was limited but the food was excellent, they had sky sports in the bar and we had the remote!
We stayed in a self catering appartment which was very well appointed overlooking the driving range and 50 yards away was a pool and sun terrace I tried the pool once but it was freezing - apparently they turn the heating off at the end of October.
The resort was about 45 minutes from Lisbon and 15minutes away from the nearest big town (Obidos) but at the small town there were a few restaurants and a supermarket as well as the usual pharmacy, clothes shops etc. We didn't spend much time there but did eat out 1 night at the "Italian" restuarant - it did pizzas! It was ok but meant we had to drive about 6 miles to get there and back so couldn't drink.
If you want a quiet getaway with all the golf you can manage then I'd reccommend this resort in November (out of season) if you like more variety stay nearer Lisbon or go to Villamoura and livlier nightlife and crowded greens! You can't have it all.The Course
