Take your scuba gear!
I have now played this course 3 times (colleagues are members) and each time have found the place to be like a swamp. My experience of this today was only marginally better than with my previous rounds.
On my previous 2 rounds I passed comment on the wet condition to the staff in the pro shop, to hear the response 'we've had a tremendous amount of rain here over the last week'. And so, I mentioned it again today to receive the same response... I live around 12 miles away and the weather this week has been great (perhaps a couple of short rain showers only)!
The course has some nice holes, these would be really nice additions to the 'City of Atlantis golf and coral club'.
Don't play the 12th - it is awful, this does not deserve to be a hole on any golf course.

Not impressed at all by the course, glad I had vouchers for it, it was like a bog and I have never left a golf course so dirty. Good pair of shoes almost ruined. Wouldn't rush back or recommend it.

An awful course to say the least, I have never come off a golf course before covered in so much mud. Will not be going back.

Unfortunately the fairways were largely unplayable due to heavy water-logging and puddles. Massive areas of fairways in the back nine were GUR and unplayable. The 18th hole had been halved due to the first section being GUR. Greens were heavy, but given the rest of the course they were actually OK.

You can see that the course has been well designed but it's unbelievably wet in a number of places. Some very nice demanding holes throughout and would also benefit from a scorecard that showed ponds!

Very nice course, great scenery, wide fairways, excellent facilities and very helpful and friendly staff. On a negative side I find that the rough is very thick in places and easy to lose a golf ball or 2, but cant blame the course for wayward shots. Really should not play golf anywhere else Westerwood has it all.

Excellent course with gorgeous views, but was very wet underfoot after a LOT of rain recently. The 16th especially was swamp-like, although all of the greens held up really well. The back 9 is probably better (and harder) than the front.
I was a little apprehensive of the 12th after reading the comments on here, but didn't think it was as bad as people had made out. I imagine that it is very tough for higher handicap players and isn't a lot easier for mid-handicappers, but it is not unbeatable if you get a good drive away.
Loved the par 5 14th, and the par 3 15th is another great hole with the rocks and the waterfall behind it.

Went to Westerwood yeserday as part of a deal, lunch and a round for £20.
Lunch was ok, but the game was very much a disapointment. It had been raining and the course was very, very wet.
It was also extremely slow going, took 5 hours to get to the 16th at which time we had to walk in due to poor light.
Westerwood felt like it was a municipal course. The guys in front of us showed no etiquet and were drinking cans off beer while they were walking round. The whole atmosphere of the place was decidely low class.
I wouldn't go back.

I played Westerwood with a the free voucher that I received at the Scottish Golf Show so had to give this course top marks for value. Sadly our game was tarnished from the very start as when we arrived we were told that the 2 buggies that we had booked were not available, no reason given by the incredibly rude member of staff(male) that we spoke to. The course itself was fairly good with some interesting holes and a couple of very nice par 3's. However and it is a big HOWEVER, the 12th hole at this course is hands down the worst golf hole I have ever had the misfortune to play(even for free). Its a total nonentity, why they didn't make it a par 3 and just do away with the pathetic fairway is totally beyond me. The highlight of my round was the par 3 16th a stunning looking downhill par 3. I have a second free voucher for Westerwood but if I go back I will be skipping the 12th hole it is so poor.

Excellent facilites, made very welcome, buggies used because of long walks between tees, lots of water due to drainage problems - beware taking the buggy down to the 7th green as the hill is treaturous in the wet. very good overall.

12th Hole should be rethought, very poor - "Preferred lies on the fairway" - there is no fairway worthy of the description. Back to the drawing board please!

the 12th hole was a disgrace as there was literally no fairway, which made attempting to choose a line difficult and killed my score! the rest of the course played quite well and the greens were generally in very good condition. some long walks between holes but an enjoyable round all in. Booked through www.teeofftimes.co.uk and got the round for a discounted £12.50 per person so value for money in this day and age also!

Course in bad condition, the greens are abjectly poor. Quite waterlogged in May, and needs much drainage work.

Course was good but a bit waterlogged, I would have rated it as very good if this had not been the case.

We played on a day where it had been raining on and off most of the day and the fairways were very wet. They did not appear to be draining very well despite being on a hill.
The greens were in fantastic condition despite being very soft due to the rain. There were a few greens with unrepaired pitch marks. Players really need to have a good look in the mirror sometimes. The greens are fantastic. Take ten seconds to repair a pitchmark and they stay that way !!! There are some fantastic holes on this course with no two holes the same. The staff were very friendly as well. Do yourself a favour and get along to Westerwood if you possibly can. I assure you, you'll love it. Ps One wee gripe. The strokesavers are awful with very few distance markers on them. You have to look on the fairways for tiny little arrows for distances.

Westerwood is a true test of your game. if you shoot 80 elsewhere you will be hard pushed to break 90plus round here. Seve designed a tough test , so when you play well here you pat yourself on the back.......but watch out for the 9s and 10s.........

Course plays long for the average handicapper and you have to be straight with a lot of tight fairways. Prices vary so phone to confirm. play is to proper greens all year round which is great for this area of Scotland. Some fantastic views all round this golf course.
