Walton Hall Golf Club
Situated in the old Walton Hall estate, this is generally regarded as the premier municipal course in the north of England. It began with nine holes in 1971, was extended and redesigned six years later by Dave Thomas and Peter Allis, and is now a championship standard 6800 yards with 3 par 3's over 200 yards long.
In a picturesque parkland setting, with fine views from the 13th tee, it boasts many mature trees and a lot of water which comes in to play on seven of the holes. The course was featured in the BBC Golf Magazine article "The Best Courses in Britain for under aTenner a Round", Summer 1994.

Ground very muddy and damp underfoot but the course was generally quiet and pleasant. Some winter tees in use, all greens still playing as it was in the summer, though with some changed pin positions. Trollies/buggies being diverted in some areas to avoid damage to ground especially round tees and greens.

The price may be quite high as a muni, but compared to other muni courses in the Merseyside?Cheshire region it's worth paying a few quid more. Some realyl good hole, especially the 9th. Have a played here 3 times this year and will defo go back again

The best muni in the northwest bar none. Fantastic layout, if someone ever bought it private and lengthened it then you could stick it in the European tour, its THAT good. Unfortunately due to the price and accessability it attracts scals and idiots who have great equipment but duff every other shot.

at £19 per round at weekends for a municipal in the codition it can sometimes be found in is a bit over priced compared to other courses

An enjoyable municipal, busy at weekends and when the kids are off though.
Some challenging holes but not too many hazards to worry about, the first 9 are quite slow and relaxed, the back 9 are when this course comes into its own with some hilly and long holes.
Very well kept for a municipal.

Very busy, had 4 groups in front of us on 1 par 3. Round took 5 and1/2 hours. Testing course for a municipal with 2 200yard par 3s. Semi rough a little long causing lost balls and plenty of ball searching just off the fairway. The recent wet weather may have prevented some cutting, greens bobbly. Will leave to summer to try again

Really disapointed with the course, tees weren't level or cut, fairways looked uncut and greens were a shambles. Such a shame for a course with a massive potential and having played there years ago the course nowadays does not compete, really let it go!

This course is one of the best and challaging municipal courses in the northwest. With 6638yards off the whites and 6293 of the yellows it is as well long.
