Vale of Glamorgan Golf Club
The Wales National is a UK golf course of distinction, one of the UK and Europe's newest championship golf courses and - at 7,433 yards off the championship tees - it's one of the longest golf courses outside of the USA.
The golf course boasts some of the UK's finest scenery, a mixture of mature wooded areas, wide and narrow fairways and vast water and bunker features, all set in the spectacular countryside of Wales, with its abundance of wildlife including badgers, swans, rabbits and hawks.
The par 73 Wales National Golf Course, opened in June 2003 by Great Britain Olympic gold medalist Sir Steve Redgrave, has already hosted Europro and Challenge Tour events and was the venue for the Sky-televised FIRSTPLUS Wales Seniors Open in June 2006 and the Wales Challenge Tour in 2007.
One of two exceptional UK golf courses at The Vale Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort, the well-established and aptly named par 72 Lake Course – which has staged numerous Wales and West PGA professional championships - is dominated by a 20-acre lake and has water coming into play on 12 of its holes. Its 8th hole looks down over the largest heronry in Wales. Its unique signature hole, The Island Green (12th), is ranked one of UK golf courses top golf holes.Contact Information

The Lakes course is a very good course with some demanding holes. The island hole (12th) is the signature hole. The course offers a bit of everything. A couple of long par 5s, bunkers, a couple of tough greens, plenty of water (obviously!)

Played the Wales National yesterday (8/7/09), it completely belies the fact that is still only 5 years old appearing way more mature than that. Very long very tough but a pleasure even for a hacker such as myself.
With Celtic Manor, St Pierre, Royal Portcawl and numerous others just minutes drive along the M4, Wales is fastly becoming a mecca for golfers. The Course

Absolutely fabulous. Had the chance to play with a friend recently, and the main course is very tough indeed. Part of a Hotel, the food/bar is fairly pricey, as is a round. But the course is tremendous, and a good variety of hazards, excellent greens, bunkers, etc. Must be one of the top Welsh courses, and I would love to play here again. If you get a chance to visit, take it. Would like to play their second course as well.

The National is a challenging long course for a high handicapper, more than enough to keep you interested and honest, bunkers, water and narrow fairways all add to the mind games! Currently quite wet but lots of drainage work being done. Greens are quick and diffcult to read. Thoughly enjoyable. Done on a three round two night deal fantastic value.

My home course. I'm a little biased but I think it's one of the best courses in the area.
It's a good test for all levels of golfers, with well-placed bunkers, lakes and trees. You will need to be able to play with the ball above, level and below your feet, especially on the card-busting stretch from 4 to 8. The greens are often very quick, and hard-to-read, and the fairways are usually in great condition.Overall rating

We played this course and it took 5 and a half hours. There were marshalls on the course assuring us they new it was slow and but did nothing about it as it was a lucrative society booking that was slowing the whole course down and the earnings from that group were more imprtant than the experience of the customers behind. To give an indication of how slow it was when we reached the 3rd tee there were 3 separate groups waiting on the tee for the green to clear. 2 of our party walked off at the 14th because they were sick of 20 minute waits on the tees. When I contacted the club - golf pro and managing director of the resort to leave feedback I was ignored. Avoid this place unless you think 5 and a half hours is a reasonable time to spend on the course!
