Royal course - hole 16 is probably the most photographed in Portugal, and seems to appear in every golf holiday brochure (200M par 3 along the edge of a cliff).

Many of the other holes are very enjoyable to play, but not as picturesque. In fact probably 14 of them have out of bounds left, right and behind the green, so you could be anywhere on the course. This rake of holes in the midst of identical trees meant it was not as enjoyable as I thought it would be.

Greens were true but not particularly quick. We were only allowed to take the buggies onto the fairways because the previous days rounds were taking over 6 hours (as told to me by a club member), and it was the only way to speed things up. Even so we kept getting pestered by marshalls despite waiting for every shot because we had nowhere to go.

It's a great course and a good test of golf, but they're trying to get too many people on the course! Get ready for a slow round if you're booked to play here!

Make sure you've got a camera - stunning views from a number of holes.

Course was in good order when we played it (twice in 4 days), although the greens were considerably slower than anywhere I've played over many years coming to Portugal.

The course was so busy on both days that marshalls kept pestering us every few holes, even though we were waiting for every shot - spoilt the whole experience, and one of our group of 24 (actually one of the 4 ladies in our group) on our second round, finally told the marshalls to leave us alone - lucky for them they did !

beautiful looking course, some really testing holes especially when the wind comes into play near the sea! Check out the tricky 200 yard par 3 over a ravine - it was so windy when we played, I hit a driver and still didnt reach!

Amazing course but the strict adherence to buggy paths make it difficult to play with buggies. Ocean for the lovely hole down to the sea with the waves crashing in the background. Royal for the magnificent hole over the cliffs. Very tricky but one of the most famous holes in Portugal.

They are doing extensive renovations to the course at the moment, which means you're playing in and out of builders rubble.

Wouldn't be so bad if they reduced the fees at this time, but no chance. Far tooooooooo pricey for what you get.

Excellent course, great condition, allthough some construction was going on around the course. The money was worth for the views on the 15th (approach facing the sea) and the 16th (par 3 over 2 cliffs), had to aim water towards the sea with my 3 wood, due to wind the ball came in towards the hole with a deviation of over 50 yards in the air, I wasnt lucky as the previous reviewer and got a 4. The 16th was a very tricky green to read as well. Booked in advance so it was much cheaper.

First few holes quite scary hiting through the villas. A lot of work going on around course at the moment, but three cracking par 3', two over the water, and one over the cliffs.

Where do you start ?

Excellent facilities, stunning views, amazing course layout.

My only complaint was the cost, £100 a round is possibly a little steep but, it is the going rate and people were/are paying it.

If you get the opportunity it is worth a visit.
