For a municipal course this is a great course with holes for all abilities.
the only downside is that it can get boggyafter rain and takes a while to recover however it is evident that improvements are being made.

Towneley has improved vastly over the last 18 months. With manicured fairways, excellent greens and wonderful views it provides a fun and testing round of golf.

Lots of variety around the course and this year a pond added to the third in the very area your drive wishes to land. If this was a privately owned course it would be a gem. Greens always in good condition, but being a Council owned course money not always available. Certainly worth a game. Club has a great loyalty scheme, play 5 times next game free.

Short track but has plenty of obstacles to keep it interesting. Well stocked pro shop and a great revamped clubhouse.

A well kept municipal which uses mats in the winter to preserve the tee's for a busy summer. No winter greens been used this winter.Recent drainage work seems to be doing the trick.Well stocked pro shop and friendly staff. Recent bar renovations are a delight to sit and relax with good choice of food.

This is a well kept municipal course with a good grounds team. It is being worked on to improve drainage and in parts looks scruffy but I am sure will quickly improve. The added pond and rain gulleys will make this a far more interesting and challenging course to play.

In very bad condition at the min. having work done that shows no sign of being done in time for the new season.? also they changed the order of the front nine at the end of last year but havent changed the score card? standards are slipping ! at leasted they have now got round to changing the nubering on the course that was very confusing. Its was a nice little knock about but I would not recomend untill the weather has turned for the better.

Towneley is now developing into an excellent course. The new greenkeeper has made excellent strides in repairing damaged greens. New drainage and extra hazards have improved things further.
A word of warning, play mid week if you can because Saturday is dominated by members who won't give an inch and are determined to extract as much from the day as possible. You would think the Ryder Cup was played there every week. If you can put up with a 4 to 4 1/2 hour round then Towneley is well worth it.
