Great Hay Drive, Sutton Hill, Telford, Shropshire, TF7 4DT United Kingdom
Telford Golf and Country Club's picturesque 6,741 yard, par 72 championship golf course is set in 170 acres of Shropshire countryside, within the boundary of the World Heritage site that is the Ironbridge Gorge. Opened for play in 1976 the attractive parkland course features strategically placed water hazards and tree-lined fairways. The undulating greens are laid on a suspended water table system, the same as Augusta, home of the US Masters. The Club has had £14 million invested in its facility and now boasts a 4 star hotel.Book a Tee Time

This is without doubt one of the best āAstbury Hall being The Bestā course in Shropshire.
Since Q Hotels have taken it over they have spent a lot of resources and money on making the course a pleasure to play for all players irrelevant of handicap and the Hotel and faculties the finest of any hotel in the area.
The Green staff do their best on a very limited budget and the course is very forgiving off the yellow teeās whilst off the white tees you will be tested to the full extent.
The bars and grills and restaurants when you finish your round offer a very good selection of snacks or meals.
The only downside is the lack of a snack bar by the 9th green / 10th hole although chocolate and drinks can be purchased in the golf shop before you tee off. ā The shop is well stocked for clothing but that is all.

This course is incredible value for money, we played today and had probably the best, most informative and friendly welcome to a golf club ever - thankyou to the lady in the pro shop. The course is quite long and very well layed out, it is kept in very good condition and generally well looked after, the greens are very tricky but in great shape. Our only gripe was that the bunker sand was poor to say the least -like grit sand for winter roads almost! Thats only a problem if you find yourself in the bunkers I know but don't we all? -- Overall a super test of golf.

The course was in excellent condition and at £10 for 18 holes after 4pm an absolute bargain, cheaper than the local municipal course.

Course is tricky and requires a lot of course management. They do produce a nice little booklet to give you a guide on the course. It was definitely needed. The regular club golfers were rude.

Played this again at the beginning of April 2011. Greens had been treated on both courses, and were virtually unplayable. Otherwise the course was in good nick. Enjoyable course in a nice setting.

A good course with an interesting layout. The designers weren't scared of a dogs leg, that's for sure! Unfortunately the round was ruined by over spiked, rock solid greens, it was like crazy golf, the worst I've ever seen! Could be a real gem, excellent facitilities too!

having played this course off and on for many years i can safely say its in the best condition its ever been in. the new owners Q hotels have spent a great deal of time and money improving thr drainage and greens which are now in excellent condition.

Having recently joined the Telford Golf Course I just thought i'd write a quick review of how I find it since joining.
As i joined the back end of November I havent quite seen the course at its best in the summer months but from what I have seen of it the course offers many challenging holes which is always usefull for improving your game. There are 4 par 3's & 5's which in turn are challenging but if you use the right approach can be par'd or better. Some of the fairways are slightly boggy and can be difficult at this time of year but the greens are imaculate and very testing with them being unpredictable. All in all a good round of golf. Prices for a round are very affordable too and membership costs are also very good the practise facilities could be better but all in all a very good complex.

An excellent looking course with some challenging holes. Good for a day out. Greens a little unpredictable though. Some are dead quick others painfully slow.
Some of the holes on the back nine are a good challenge with the hills and water.

Played 18 on a cheap deal and still felt like it was overpriced for the condition of the course. It all looked good at the start, nice little range, chipping and putting area..but.. get onto the first green which was like patchwork quilt. Lots of dead patches all over the greens disrupting the line of putting. They were dry from the clever drainage system they boast but thats pointless if half of it is pants! Most of the fairways were cut up - looks lik a drainage plan but kills any roll on a good drive etc. It all looked a bit messy on the ground really - Loked forward to ending the round.

Played with some colleagues from work. Have always wanted to play Great Hay as it's a local course to me and had heard some good reports since the Hotel had been taken over. The newly refurbished club shop and changing areas are absolutely superb, probably the smartest place I've been too. The course itself was fairly well maintained although some of the bunkers could do with a rake. The greens were terrible though, definately the worst I've played on. Came away feeling slightly disappointed. £14 for 18 holes was excellent value though.

Another course where course management comes in handy. Most of the long holes you can get the driver out although, some of the views from the tee, there doesn't look much room on the fairway due to the nature of the design and bunkering. First time I played it, the greens were lightning fast but haven't been as quick the last 2 visits but still in good condition anyway. Drinks are a little pricey in the bar as with most hotel golf courses are. Another course I try to play every year.

A mature, well-kept and managed course with interesting holes and other features. Reasonably forgiving but don't be fooled! Quite a few challenges. Picturesque in places with some good views. Some refurbishment of hotel and pro shop in progress Sept 2007 and so can only rate facilities as fair when I played there.
