i've played Stoneleigh a number of times over the years as a visitor, and at 1st, didn't like the layout (think i was stuck behind too many trees!). However, over time I've really grown to enjoy the challenge (for a mid handicapper), and even though it's not overly long (c5900 from yellows), it's not a course you can necessarily overpower due to a number of trees which are well positioned if you're offline with tee shots. It isn't the best course in the area, but i don't think it tries to be and this is reflected in the green fees, which are great value, and a warm welcome is received from the pro shop and bar.
Overall, i'd recommend Stoneleigh to anyone looking for a good value round of golf in the Cov/Warwickshire area.

well run and friendly course
an interesting course that crosses the Avon four times. Challenging and arduous line up of three consecutive par 5s on the first 9 but a gentle relief on the back nine with a variety of challenging holes. Fabulous kitchen providing take away bacon baps after nine holes!Reviewer Rating

A gem of a course in rural Warwickshire, south of Coventry
Away working so looked for a course nearby and found Stoneleigh Deer Park GC. I wasn't disappointed as this is a great course that offers something to all standards of golfer. From the moment I walked into the proshop, Adam made me feel at home as a visitor/member to bumping into the local golfers, Stoneleigh is one of the friendliest courses I've had the pleasure of playing. The course itself looks a little lopsided with a par 38 front 9 and par 33 back 9. This though doesn't detract from the course. The first 2 hikes on the front 9 are a fairly gentle start, but are a pretty stern test. Then you enter a run of 4 par 5's in 5 holes that will test your long game. Tucked in the middle of these holes is a fantastic, stroke index 2, par 3, that has 5/6 bunkers surrounding a green the size of a peanut with enough slopes and breaks to seriously test your putting skills. The 7th hole has a line if trees staggered diagonally across the fairway that makes you think where to position your ball. This then forces you into a decision to go for the green or Kay up, due to the River Avon fronting the green. The 8th may not look long on the card, but with OIB all down the left of the fairway, the River Avon all down the right a positional teeshot is required, but that means a longer iron or hybrid into a tiny green. The back 9 starts with a gentle par 4 that again crosses the River Avon, the course then gives you an opportunity to get some shots back with a couple of par 3's and a short par 4, albeit a blind teeshot. The 14th is a gentle dogleg par 5, with the widest fairway on the course, followed by a great par 3, 15th. An elevated tee looking downhill to a a large green. Very picturesque. The 16th is deservedly stroke index 1. A long par 4 that goes uphill, downhill and uphill again to another tiny green. The 17th is very long par 3 and the 18th is a good finishing hole that again crosses the River Avon on the approach to the green. Stoneleigh's greatest defence is that a lot of greens are very small indeed with run off areas that make holding the ball on them difficult. A lot of shots will test you you with the ball either above or below your feet, but to me that made me think a lot more about shot selection and I tried different shots to see how I faired. They didn't all come off, but I was fairly pleased with most. I'd you are in the area, give Stoneleigh a visit, ?20 for a twilight round is very good value. I'd recommend a visit.Reviewer Rating

Good course, shame about the club captain!
Challenging start, narrow course with anything off the fairway difficult to find. Enjoyable but busy. Day spoilt by Club Captain ?asking us nicely? to speed things up when we were just waiting on people ahead of us. Got the impression that he was more annoyed at the 3 Societies that had visited that morning and he took it out on us! Will not be playing there again.Reviewer Rating

Interesting trees - a bit of water
A pleasant course, not too demanding (for those who know a bit of what they're doing) - not spectacular. A couple of holes skirt around or over a river, a few have slopes to manage. Quite wide and open - but with woods around the edges.Reviewer Rating
