Golf Club Overview

South Beds Golf Club in Luton has two courses, the 18-hole Galley Hill Course and the 9-hole Warden Hill Course. Both are downland courses built around the chalk hills of Bedfordshire. This makes both courses a challenge for golfers of all abilities and a location most suitable for golf all year round, regardless of the weather. Galley Hill Course At 6401 yards in length, with a Par and SSS of 71, the Galley Hill Course is recognised as one of the best in Bedfordshire and surrounding counties. Although it is only 30 years old, much of it was part of the previous layout and therefore, the quality and reputation of South Beds that once lead Harry Vardon to describe it as Bedfordshire's hidden gem, remains to this day. With out-of-bounds running alongside 14 of the holes, the Galley Hill Course offers a stern test and is a regular choice for County Championships. However, the Club is not sitting on its laurels and has started a five-year modification programme to keep equipment improvements in check. Warden Hill Course Based on the same chalk downland as the Galley Hill Course, the 9-hole Warden Hill Course presents a well kept challenge all year round. It is 4784 yards for 18 holes, with a Par of 64 and therefore, a full course and not a 'par 3' or 'pitch & putt course'. Furthermore, with 7 of the 9 holes rising phoenix-like from earlier layouts, the Club's quality and reputation remain intact. A popular choice for visitors and Club Members alike, who can choose to play either 9 or 18 holes, this course enables the Club to offer affordable golf to local golfers, many of whom go on to become Members of South Beds.
