What the club says: The golf course measures 6,329 yards and has a par of 70 and a SSS of 71. It generally plays longer than its yardage due to the elevations of several greens and fairways. Although originally a heath land course, there is now an abundance of mature trees and shrubs that line its fairways.
The greens are always true and fast and will test the very best of players. Peter Alliss has described our 17th hole as “one of the best short holes in the South of England”. The course is always in excellent condition throughout the year, and as written in the Michelin Guide “It is well worth a detour”. Martin Hawtree, the renowned international golf course architect, has redesigned Sonning’s original Taylor/Colt layout and has produced an impressive new 18th hole that finishes in front of the clubhouse. With an excellent practice range and short game area, Sonning provides some of the best facilities in the South of England.

A course guide would be useful if playing for the first time as some holes require knowledge of the course to be prepared for fairway shapes etc. a change of running order, and the last hole, have improved the course for me.
Well worth a visit for a Colt Design experience.
