Sherdley Park Golf Club
The undulating 18-hole parkland course, opened in 1973, measures 5912 yards, par 71 & provides a challenge to golfers of all abilities. It is one of the best kept municipal parkland courses in the North West and is open daily throughout the year from light until dusk.
Each hole has its own unique features. Generally wide fairways do not unduly punish the high handicappers, but even scratch players will do very well to finish under par. Two par fives, a sprinkling of par threes and some short (but challenging) and not so short (and still challenging!) par fours make sure there is something for everyone.Contact Information

Beautifully maintained but many holes too short for better players.

played this for the first time on full greens yesterday with a couple of my mate who have never played it so expectation was high and so was the scoring so we thought...
well the weather was a mixed bag but the course was very good condition, some realy good holes on the front 9 but the back 9 is as some one else has said easier. nice to com in after the front being a little hilly (not the massive hills like some others local but slopes are wicked) some very tasty par 3's you can realy have a go at them with a mid to low iron. the greens are great don't hold water and are nicley looked after. the fairways are well very good but like i said some do slope badly, (so be carefull were you aim as you could be of the fairways to the oppersite side if not carefull). over all very good had a great time, shame the club house shut at 17:30 we got in at 17:15 and told we could have a beer but only if we could drink it before half past (so we ordered TWO each !!!!!!!) staff was great as they served the guys who finished after us...The Course

Quite a testing course which can be tough on the legs the front nine plays harder than the back nine which offers several birdie chances.

Having played at Sherdley Park some years ago, I was keen to return to see how it had developed since the re-design of a number of holes. First impressions were not good however, even though this is a municipal course, we thought best to book a tee as we were playing on Saturday morning and i presume it gets quites busy. The cost of the round was £17, not cheap and we also had to pay a £1 each booking fee which was a farse as i'll explain shortly. The clubhouse facilities look ok i guess but not housed in the most attractive of buildings and the assistant was house behind a glass shield in the pro-shop?! bizarre. Anyway, we made our way to the first tee only to find a queue!! how can we book a tee time (and pay for privelage) and then queue? Very poor.
Anyway, onto the course and things got much better. The course was in very good condition, nice fairways, very nice and well kept greens and the whole course looks very mature with various large trees that lined some fairways. Some very nicely designed holes with some nice touches and plenty for the golfer to think about. The last 6 holes offer some fantastic holes that you wouldn't expect to see on a municipal as this side of the course is very hilly and some nice sloping fairways. Bunkers are nicely positioned throughout but some were un-raked (i guess you should expect this on a muni). There had been thunder storms the night before with torrential rain but the course coped with this very well and the drainage system did its job nicely. The round took almost 5 hours for a 3 ball but this was largely due to the backlog from the first tee through to about the 10 hole.
Overall, a very nice course for a municipal and a nice challenge let down by poor service and overbooking and a monster round time. Worth a visit. The Course

Love playing this course as is challenging and set in lovely surroundings. The course is always well looked after and has just had a facelift which has made it even better. Just a shame that 4 of the greens have been hit hard during the winter and are well sanded but that will only be for the short term I was informed. The shop has some great bargains too, and helpful staff.
