Paying for the novelty

Greens and bunkers were outstanding, overall considering it’s an
Open venue it was disappointing tee box’s were neglected. The layout is very flat and not much character to the course , Hillside is a much better course

The clubhouse is stunning and everything you expect with an open venue.

Surprisingly the bar prices are very reasonable.

Played this as a birthday present from my fiancee. Clubouse is two floors. Downstairs very standard bar area with the hallway having some good memorabilia. Upstairs was lovely. Very old world with a lovely big bay window looking across the course.
Couldn't have asked for better playing conditions in Feb. Sunny, no wind and very quiet course. The course was in excellent condition. The greeens were fair at best at putted very slowly. I know it is February but I would expect more at a course such as this. What struck me most was how flat the course was, like one giant field, though in immaculate condition other than the greens. Some nice holes but nothing spectacular. The tees were very far forward as well which I felt took something away from the challenge.
Having played a lot of golf at Wallasey down the road (albeit mostly in summer) I would honestly say I find that more interesting and prettier.

Greens were very fast and tricky to read. Not one of my favourite courses and tighter than you think. Hole 10 and 12 are unfair due to the camber on the fairways. The last five holes are just up and down and uninteresting. It's a tough test but not in the top league in my opinion.

Played in the Macmillan cancer charity day. Beautiful day and the course was great. Tough course for high handicappers, especially the bunkers but a great experience to play one of the UK's open championship courses.

Not much to say as it was a very wet day, extremely difficult to get out of the rough and not as enjoyable as it should have been, but we still enjoyed playing a great course.

Stunning place.

So much history, everything you’d expect from an open venue.

Tee boxes are better then most greens around the UK.

You're in for a treat when you play here. The fairways and greens are always in top condition, and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. It's a historic course, so you can expect a lot of character.

Fantastic Open course

If you want to play a British Open course this must be one of the best. Although we had rain and wind, the course played fairly and the condition it was in was amazing. A very warm welcome from everyone at the club too. If you get the chance play it.
