Golf course review of Portsmouth Golf Club

A good test for all handicap golfers open course layout not too much trouble out on the course but there are a lot of holes you need to be placing your shots in the right areas for yur next shot(s) into the green.
There is some work being done to the course to improve the greens

greens not up to scratch very poor ,bar closes early about 5pm,and clubhouse very poor with not good service,and food very average.

Played here last Sunday was in ok condition the greens need work doing to them and this golf course could be very very good. Pro shop lady seems stuck up her own butt likes to talk down to you even tho we pay her wages. Front 9 brilliant challenge back 9 is like a normall golf course.

Very poor condition and at time of playing (10 April) still playing off winter mats! Poor maintenance overall - grass cuttings strewn over the rough, greens unreceptive, pitted. Staff were unwelcoming and used vulgar language in presence of my young son. I will not be returning.

Crookhorn remains an excellent track. Shame a little more care isn't taken of it because it really could be a truly outstanding public course. That said, conditions are far from terrible.
Paid £7 for 18 holes via teetimes. Can't argue with that.

Poor course set-up, fairways messy with cuttings; greens pitted, uneven and untrue, nil graduation to rough, temporary tees after a period of good weather. Finished round at 1815 - to be told the bar had shut at 1800. Very disappointed and a waste of £6! Won't be playing the course again.

got new manager called mrs t she has been there for 6years she has new staff the greens are alot better it gets cut and looked after good now and all commers are made to fill welcome hard front nine all hills back nine is hard but very nice new green keepers and good members

great views, course was in quite good condition given we played just after all the snow of late 2010. Mats werent great for left handed players, and had to tee of the grass at some points.

A lovely scenic course with some stunning views. Some interesting holes too. A real shame that it is not better kept, the greens are a bit slow and bobbly, and the winter mats had nowhere to put your tee!

Nice course just needs keeping a bit better. £21 a bit steep considering the condition of the course??

the course is in good nick front nine is hard because of hills there are few problems with greens which need to be taken up through cabbage patches(weeds)could do with paths through some ruffs but all in all good course.staff are very good.pros are more than willing to give you help.its well worth the money

This is the tougher of the two Portsmouth Municipal courses. It is set high on the cliffs above the city affording great views. The front 9 is very undulating and challenging; the back 9 is flatter and more straightforward. I played during their "Open Weekend" and would have expected the course to be in better nick - dry fairways are the norm in the South at present but scrappy tees, no bunker rakes and woolly greens were a disappointment. Will go back next year though because the course has got plenty of interest.

I really like this course as it is quite challenging and no two holes are the same. The downside is the greens, they are not as smooth as I would expect but this really is about the only bad thing about the course. the 6th is a personal favourate of mine.
If you are in the area try thios course!
