What the club says: First established in 1922 as a 9 hole course Owston Hall has matured wonderfully. It has regularly hosted events on the EuroPro Tour, which demonstrates the excellent standard of the layout. The golf course is set in over 200 acres of mature parkland, with large oaks and water hazards making the course both enjoyable to play whilst at the same time challenging. The feature hole is the 10th a par 4, 284-yard hole which requires a carry over two carefully placed ponds before playing up to the green which is overlooked from the conservatory of the 18th century Owston Hall.

Course was overall in good condition, stray from the fairway and you will find thick long grass, if you manage to find your ball its difficult to punch it out. Some T boxes are bit Iffy. Layout on some holes a bit strange, it appears course has been changed as garmin watch gives wrong distance!

Good condition considering

18 greens and tees in a wet winter, I will take that. Bit pricey at ?28 but go in the week and it's much less. I would return although it's not a ?40 course if the price goes up in summer, my opinion.

Accountant Run Course

We played the course twice over the last weekend litter strewn T Boxes covered in divots and broken T's the fairways clearly suffering some sort of grass fungus with large swathes dead or dying. Yes the greens themselves were in the main not horrendous but even here divots and damage had not been repaired. This could be a lovely course but lack of investment has left it very much wanting.

Nice to play a mature parkland course. Large trees, many of them on or encroaching into the fairway, pose a different challenge. The fairways were lush, and a member told me the grass had been left longer than usual. Greens and tee boxes were in good condition but the only downside were the bunkers. There weren't that many of them but they were very scruffy, with weeds growing in them, bare sand and not even a rake in some. It wasn't a huge problem but it was certainly out of keeping with what was a really nice course otherwise.

Potentially nice course in need of some TLC!

Only the second time we've played here with the first time being pre-Covid.
The course is a nice lay-out but lacks a little finesse which could promote it from decent to good.
The bunkers were generally in pretty poor condition with both little definition and not enough sand.
The tee-boxes needed tidying up, with quite a few of the white/yellow teeing markers missing and no plaques for yardages and hole layout maps on any of them.
The course in general was hard, especially for the time of year and the greens were in need of some water, as they were unreceptive, with approach shots having to be landed well short to stand any chance of them finishing on the greens.
The only real positive was the green fee, which at £18 was reasonable and just about value for money. However, we agreed we'd rather them spend a bit of money getting it up to snuff and start charging say £25.

Nice just lacking some love

Stayed overnight at the hotel for a round the next day. Hotel was nice and some great golf displays, food and room where excellent. There did seem to be a lack of staff and and the hotel needed a little bit of work. Then onto the golf, we had an early tee time of 8:30 and no one about to discuss but they had a screen up with the tee times and we where on there so all good. I liked the course thought it was interesting and a challenge, the course was flat but made you think about your shores, but I did think the greens where quite poor, and felt a bit underwhelming, which was a shame as I did like the course. Overall it was a nice course but let down a little with the greens

Course has been redesigned since we last played and is now a nice non-strenuous par 69. Also reasonably flat. Course was well drained and greens were good for time of year. Good value at ?20 for a weekend.
What was unacceptable though was the price of a simple cob. We ordered a hot pork sandwich and waited about 20 minutes. It was given to us to take away in polystyrene containers as we needed get ready for tee off. It turned out to be a basic small white bap, unbuttered with 2 slices of pork and a splash of gravy. ?15 they charged for two of them, wasn't even good, dry and tasteless. Was going to take it back but ran out of time and had to eat something. Lesson learnt, golf there again yes but will bring lunch with !!

Great place for a weekend golf break, lovely hotel with leisure facilities and a really nice restaurant. The course was in great condition and the greens were running true.
No real hills so good for a nice flat round of golf then a cool beer in the club house after.
