Nice original 9 hole - awful 18

Played this course many moons ago when it was just the original 9 holes - all ok then and very playable. The owners thence decided to build nine new holes to make 18 and I went to play it as such again. First thoughts were that they had bitten off more than they could chew with a truly awful and virtually unplayable 10th hole and the rest just a mish mash of nothing holes, it really was awful. Now it has closed after going progressively downhill, exactly as I sumised when playing it for the 2nd time

Misled

Sorry to say that is is only a golf course in that you can play a ball from tee (of sorts) to a wasteland with a pin on it !!
Course has been let go throughout covid and without significant investment will just wither away.
Def one to swerve.
Nature taking its course !!

Having played the original 9 holes a year or so ago, I was looking forward to the new back 9. Sadly what a disapointment. The front are perfectly playable and indeed there are a number of fime holes, the uphill first being a fine opening hole with the 3rd a lovely par 3 to a green surrounded by mounding. The other holes on this front 9 are perfectly adequate. And then a walk through to the 10th which proved to be one of the most ridiculous holes in the world, it is awful, there being no way that an average player will not lose a ball or finish the hole without a lot of luck. After that is a 90 yard par three to a blind green, and then a series of very bland, and very new holes, some playable, most boring. Sadly, because of that one quite awful 10th hole, I will not be back, and should be dug up and thrown away as soon as possible.

If the front 9 was as good as the back 9 they would have a really special course. As it is a little bit more care with the length of rough and on the greens is needed but overall very enjoyable. As mentioned above the back 9 has some recent work done to it and is far better then the front and includes one of the most unique holes I have ever played. Will defineitly return, the twilight deal is good value for what's on offer.

Really poor course in bad nick, basically a field with putting areas (as opposed to greens) will not return if in area try crediton or Fingle glen as these are golf courses not fields

It's a decent course, with some testing holes but if I have 2 faults with it there is too much rough if you hit your ball in there you have zero chance of finding it, and I've played better courses at a cheaper price

I have been playing this course for a long time, they have just added an additional 9 holes which makes a fantastic 18 hole course now. The new 10th hole is a 449 yard, Par 4, 7 terraced fairway and is just fantastic, like nothing I have ever seen before. Great views from Dartmoor to Sidmouth and Blackdown hills. You have to play the 10th, you won't believe it’s great.

For the beginner golfer Newton St Cyres is a fun course to play as is forgiving and relaxed. Nice friendly atmosphere and the greens are kept to a fair standard. It was very wet when I played and the course still played ok.
