Newport Golf Club
Great Oak, Rogerstone, Newport, Gwent, NP10 9FX United Kingdom
The course has an ideal situation some 300 ft above sea level on an inland plateau, surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Wales. As it lies amidst picturesque woodlands and hills it is well sheltered from the prevailing weather. The southern views from the clubhouse look across the Bristol Channel towards the hills of Devon and Somerset, while to the east and north lie the hills and vales of North Gwent and the Brecon Beacons.
The parkland turf of the course provides a lush surface for the fairways which are well kept. The soil drains quickly and the course seldom floods even after heavy downpours, the soil is generally free from a hard clay surface and provides a good playing surface throughout the year. The Greens and tees are watered by the club's own sprinkler system, supplied from the clubs own borehole. The course benefits from an integral drainage system which has been installed in recent years. Book a Tee Time

Course was in excellent condition for the time of year - the greems being especially good.

I just played this course, as part of a society, on the last of the winter fees and had a great round (not my own play but the course and day). The course was in good condition, aided by great weather. Unfortunately, there were still winter tees on some holes and these were in poor condition. The greens were good despite being hollow tined recently, running very fast and generally true. If not for these two things I'd have scored it "Excellent" instead of just "Very Good".
The club house staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and added to an overall very enjoyable day.

A well set up and maintained course.Every hole presents a challenge.
Although not long do not think this is an easy course.
There were some mats in use but this did not detract in any way from the enjoyment of the course. Green to next tee walks are short so making for a easy walking course.

I play this course at least once a year and it is one of the best courses in the area, plenty of interesting holes and magnificent quick, true greens.
Highlights for me are the tight tree-lined par-4 11th, the short par-3 2nd with its undulating green, and the undulating par-5 12th.
I couldn't recommend this course more highly if you find yourself iin the Newport area.
