nice enough spacious setting in a quiet valley, just one visual blot with the pylons. Reasonable layout, if a little easy. I never concentrate on condition when reviewing a course, but every element is so poor it's impossible to do otherwise..fairways bare and patchy, hardly any bunkers in play (almost all seem to be GUR) and have obviously had serious problems with the greens. The range is shabby and all fixtures and fittings (boards for each hole, starters hut, signage etc) are apparently being left to rot. No idea where the par 3's are being measured from, always a clue that a place is being run by someone with little interest in golf. Greenkeeper refused to give way to us, pro shop not particularly friendly. Clubhouse is also in dire need of refurbishing, no menu for food they can do a sandwich that I could have done better myself. If I was betting I would predict it closing within 2 years, and that would be the only reason to play it at the moment.

The course is very nice but the greens are an absolute disgrace at the moment. They are apparently being treated but they are totally unplayable. They are like sand pits with deep holes all over them. £28 for a round is shocking price. You cannot pitch the ball and putting is a lottery. Not happy.

played Saturday 1pm, we used 2 fore 1 vouchers so only payed £14.50 at that price on a weekend is fantastic value. Has some very tricky holes with water on many, my favourite hole was the 13th a par 3 at over 220 yards with water down the right side and trees down the left so you have to hit straight and even if you make the green its tricky as the green is slick and undulating, a great test of a hole no matter what handicap you play off, will defo play this course again...!!!

An Essex Gem. Nazeing GC

Decided to venture out into the Essex countryside from West London, and after reading reviews, headed to play Nazeing GC, and it turned out to be a good decision. From the moment I arrived and checked into the Pro-shop, I was made to feel like a fully paid-up member. Facilities are great. A fairly large putting green and an excellent driving range area between the clubhouse and 1st tee. As for the course, well. There are some excellent holes at Nazeing. There are a variety of holes, from long to short par-4's and par-3's, to par-5's inviting you to grab the driver. The fairways are fairly wide most of the way round, but some are quite tight. There appears to be fairway, semi-rough, longer rough, then even longer rough, but even in the rough its not that much of a problem to escape from, but take your medicine and get it back in play. There are some stand-out holes at Nazeing with the 1st, a right to left dogleg, with a large lake on the corner of the dogleg, the 5th, worthy of the stroke index 1, a gentle rising fairway to a small sloping green, the 7th a 500 yard par 5 with a large expanse of water to the approach to green on your right, the 8th a long uphill par-3, that will test your accuracy with a long-ish iron and the 9th, sweeping downhill, then uphill towards the clubhouse an excellent finishing hole to the front 9. The back 9 starts with a gentle downhill par 5, with a ditch approx 120 yards from the green forcing a decision for the shorter hitters, the 13th a 225 yard par 3 from the yellow tees, with overhanging oak tree branches on the left and another large lake to the right of the green. An excellent hole. The 17th a shortish par 4 slightly downhill, with out of bounds all down the left bunkers to the front left of the green and another pond to the right of the green and then the 18th a gentle rising fairway towards the clubhouse with an array of bunkers short of the green. As you would expect, there are a fair amount of greens with slopes and breaks, but that just makes you think a bit harder about putting, which it should do. In summary, Nazeing gives you the opportunity to open your shoulders on a fair few holes, but be mindful to drift too far into the rough. Green fee was ?30, a reasonable price to pay for a course that you won't be disappointed with. Nazeing GC, is well worth a visit.

First Time at Nazeing

Got a groupon voucher for two at Nazeing, really enjoyed the round in was played under a lot of winter tees which my sister felt were really challenging on the red tees. Enjoyed the round and course although I think in Summer it would be completely different. Thought the 19th hole was dissapointing, nice service but no food really and fairly tired surroundings

Good course, worth a visit

Three high-teen handicappers enjoyed our first trip to Nazeing on a Sunday morning. Depite lots of rain the day before the course and all greens were in really good condition. Lots of bunkers now filled in (not an issue for us at all). Some tee to green yardages appeared to be a little off on the tee boards so take care. Clubhouse looks a little tired inside but staff and locals were friendly despite some Sunday drivers on the course slowing the pace, including us at times.

This is a nice course to play. Temporary mate's are not to great as you can not get a tea in the but that is my only fault with the course. If you use groupon it works out a lot cheaper to play. It should of been £28 pound but used groupon and wss £17 which also includes a bucket of balls for range a coffee and bacon roll.
