Manor of Groves Golf Club
High Wych, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, CM21 0LA United Kingdom
This 18 hole course is set in 150 acres of beautiful rolling Hertfordshire countryside and is perfect for golfers who enjoy a challenge and like to think their way round a course. The par 71, 6,237 yard layout has been subject to a large investment of time and effort over the last couple of years. It's divided into two differing nine hole loops with the first nine stretching out across old farmland while the back nine weaves in and around the old manor gardens. The course, while tactical, is also quite forgiving with large, expansive fairways although the numerous dog legs and strategically placed bunkers ensure you'll be kept on your toes. In addition, many of the greens are raised making club selection crucial. The course plays well all year round with good drainage under the fairways and the greens being sand based.
18 holes. Par 71. 6237 yards. Parkland.

Played twice as part of a golf break. Course was in good condition with tees and greens well maintained. The course was very busy on both days and unfortunately the second round was ruined by the slow play of the groups in front. Having seen them in the bar downing shots at 10am and then watching them emptying bottles of beer and JD into the bin during the round, we knew why they were going so slow.
As other reviews have mentioned the middle section of the course is quite tight and there are a number of the par 4 where its more sensible to use a long iron rather than the driver. I found this section more interesting than the longer open holes that complete the round. However, given the number of ditches, ponds and trenches involved throughtout the course it does require some effective course management to score well.

Played here on a golfbreak. Course in good condition and attached hotel is nice. Parkland course with some open holes, some undulations and some tree lined holes along with a water crossing the course which adds decision making to some of the holes re whether to lay up or try to carry.

The course is really good, the fairways and greens are in really good condition. Really challenging course with narrow greens and narrows fairway bordered by trees. A few doglegs. This course is worht a look.

great course. basic map of each hole at the tee would be useful as many holes are dogleg and it not always obvious where to aim

An interesting course which makes you think about every shot. Two distinct parts, one quite open where you are able to use a driver, the other very enclosed where you need to be accurate. Plenty of water. Greens very good, quicker than expected.

played for the first time. this was a pro-am event.greens were in excellent condition.very enjoyable course with opportunities to be rewarded for playing well. had a good round apart from one hole where the wheels came off big time. still we won the team event walking away with £90.00 worth of prizes each.clubhouse food and changing room facilites were all excellent.would recomend playing if you have the chance.18th hole was 606 yards short.

A challenging course for a high handicapper like myself. Requires good course management and club selection. The addition of a ditch on the 4th hole has also changed the SI17 hole to something much more tricky.

Very good golf package. Hotel very nice with great food and 2 rounds of golf for only £65. Course was in very good condition. It is a fair challenge with some tough holes particuarly the 18th being a 600 yard par 5 to finish. A few reviews on here say a buggy is a must. I disagree. Walked both days and have played on far hillier courses. Wouldn't bother spending the £25 they charge for hire. Overall very good and would come back.

Great course with excellent friendly staff. Some memorable holes - long par 3 7th and par 3 10th over the water, the par 4 12th and the 600yard par 5 18th.

Nice easy opening hole. This course has great facilities for the women, Pool Sauna etc so a good course if you want to get 36 holes in without the old woman chasing after you.
One suggestion is, if you can, get a buggy.
Very up/down hill course

A Challenging Parkland Course with ponds and ditches, tight fairways and punishing rough. All in all adds up to big scores and lost balls if not swinging well. Excellent drainage and the greens were in very good condition. At £28 per round on Weekdays (£14 with 2-Fore-1 vouchers accepted all week!), its well worth the money.

A Challenging Parkland Course with ponds and ditches well placed, could cause high scores and a few lost balls if not playing well, suits left to right (slicer course), hilly, enjoyable course, a couple of nice par 3's 10 & 13, and a very difficult tee shot for men at 12, 200 yard carry through narrow gap over big pond! Good clubhouse facilities and satelite buggies available. Hotel adequate though 4 star I would say is generous.

An interesting mix of a very open nine holes, almost links and a parkland nine. Some very long holes that require some good long shots to achieve par. A good alround challenge.
