Earl course is perfect for beginners. Granted it is not maintained as well as the Duke but perfectly reasonable given the discounted price.
Duke has very challenging back 9 and looked after really well.
Clubhouse facilities excellent. Not stuck up like other clubs either.

Played the Duke course courtesy of a winter special deal including a bacon roll, 18 holes and ham, egg & chips. Certainly a course where you need to buy a course guide if its your first time. A lot of holes protected by bunkers and lakes. The bunkers were in good condition as was the course. The club house is luxurious and spacious. We had a very enjoyable day and being a high handicapper didn't find it too taxing. All the staff were very friendly, helpful & courteous.

Pleasantly surprised having never played here before and having heard dubious reports.
Playe the Dukes course as a members guest on a weekday for £20.
Nice course layout. Testing but not too penal. Some water. Greens very good.
Excellent all day breakfast in golfers bar afterwards.
Winter greens are in pace but not in use today. Not sure if / when they will come into play.

Played the Duke course on a society day. Certainly a course where you need to buy a course guide if its your first time. A lot of holes protected by bunkers AND lakes. The bunkers could do with some work. All were rock hard sand at the bottom. A lot of the holes on a steady climb, so if you have any sort of leg trouble, make sure you get a buggy. The club house is new and spacious. Members only bar, so make sure you don't stray into the hallowed land. Service in the restaurant was excellent.

Not played the Duke course but have played the Earl. Earl; No tee signs, direction signs or distance markers. No map or picture guide of holes available. Most fairways okay, greens seem reasonable. A bit of effort to improve would make a lot of difference. The layout of the course does not lend itself to choosing to do either just the front or back nine holes during twilight or when pushed for time - some clubs the first and last hole on each nine is by the club house - not here. Not a difficult course though (just as well as I am not very good!).

The small course Earl is starting to become a half decent course. They have improved the layout, new markers to denote the holes including signs for the next tee. All bunkers now have sand and all the old bunkers have been filled in and grassed over. The fairways are quite good and the greens are just developing. By next year they should be in excellent condition.
The price has just been increased to £13 per round, but after 4 o'clock, it's £6 cant complain about that.
Overall a good little course for a beginner to im-prove their round.

Played the Earl Course today - worst course I have played to date may of well played at the local park. None of the tee's are marked - no fairway - greens poor. Not sure what they have done in a year (see post 28/10/07). If I come again will play Duke course which is supposed to be better!
Facilities very good shame they do not spend more on the course.

Played the Dukes course for the first time last week. I have previously played the Earl course and would not recommend that as it is not in very good condition.
The Dukes couse however is in great shape for this time of year. I should have purchased a course guide because it can be a little misleading and some of the holes do take some strange courses.
It is an open course so high handicappers will find it to their liking, not sure if it has enough for low handicappers yet.
The greens were in great shape but we were playing off temporary tees, not mats, but the grass was not cut on the tee which was a little disappointing.
There are massive amounts of work being made to the facilities and once complete they will be fabulous.
I would say give it a try but don't expect too much for the moment.

Played 5 holes on Sunday before returning to the clubhouse and demanding my money back. Temp tees and temp greens neither of which had been mown in at least a week if im generous. Par threes were as short as 40 yards. Very poor excuses made when i complained but they did refund my money eventually. I respect what they are trying to achieve and have long said that they need to take the greens out of use but what they have put in as substitutes were no better than playing on a football pitch. Dont be tempted by the £10 green fee, you can get the same quality course for nothing at your local recreational ground. Must try harder.

They're sorting the course but its taking time. The new hole order is better. £10 a round makes up for the condition.
