What the club says: The Lakes

The wonderful par 72 Championship Course was opened in 1997 and plays to 6,572 yards from the championship tees. Set within 180 acres of Northumberland countryside the course design is based around an 'American Style' ethos, with plenty of water to catch anyone not hitting straight from the tee. The famous Longhirst wildlife inhabit the many lakes that frame the fairways, so you can share surroundings with plenty of ducks, geese and swans whilst you search for the birdies! If you're looking for a little piece of Florida on this side of the pond look no further than Longhirst Hall Golf Club. This is a hidden gem!

18 holes. Par 70. 6101 yards. Parkland.

The Dawson

The Dawson Course offers a different challenge to the Championship Course at Longhirst. Measuring 6,713 yards from the white tees, it is actually longer but the holes have been modelled to create wider fairways and large greens to contrast with the more demanding Championship Course. Extended from the original 9 holes of the Blueberry Course, the Dawson Course is a great addition to this golfing complex.

18 holes. Par 73. 6713 yards. Parkland.

Made the decision 2 weeks ago and joined the club. So glad I did, the courses are the best I\'ve played in Northumberland this year, with the lakes in particular in pristine condition. The greens are as good as I have played anywhere. Very friendly club with no airs and graces. Welcomed very well by other members and also in the competitions. Love the place.

The course was in tip top condition. The greens and fairways were manicured and there are another 2 cuts before the \"jungle\" outside these cuts grows up. If you like wildlife then deer are around, but ofcourse it is the time of the year for the indigenous swans to have hatched their broods of cygnets.there were at least half a dozen pairs with 5 to 7 young ones. Now is the time to play the Lakes course as the ground staff under the watchful eye of Graham Chambers are getting the course prepared for the EuroPro Tournament in August. Congratulations to all concerned. Lisa the catering manager is serving up some tremendously tasty food these days, with a good selection of beers, lager and cider on draft.

Outstanding course`s for the big hitters and the precision golfers. Played the Euro Pro Tour Lakes course and the greens were amazing , true tour standard fairways. The Lakes is a true test of golf for all abilities. Playing the Dawson tomorrow so will place a review again . Thanks for a warm and friendly welcome.

In my view Longhirst is a unique golf venue. Firstly there are two excellent courses to choose from; the Lakes is a true test of strategy and skill and not a \'big hitters\' course; the Dawson is longer with some testing par 4 and 5 holes. Both courses are particularly challenging because of the number of lakes and dykes, it is styled as a Floridian style course and this makes it very individual amongst Northumberland courses. In addition both course are full of wildlife including swans, geese, owls and deers. You are sure of a warm North Eastern welcome at this friendly and informal golf course - but just hope the wind doesnt blow!!

The whole facilty at Longhirst has come on massively over the last 2/3 years from the welcome in the shop , the service in the bar and the course the main reason we go . The course has developed so much . Longhirst has always had massive potential due to its challenging layout and many many hazards and it is now starting to realise this potential . This course in my opinion is forward thinking with many initiatives to get youngsters involved in golf which is reflected in its thriving junior section . The whole course is in the best condition i have ever seen it and it is only going to get better . If you haven\'t played here in a while it is well worth a visit . Well done to the management & staff and keep up the good work

Drying out nicely, good run on the ball, ground staff cutting greens and fairways. Weather much warmer, but still more comfortable in mitts! Lots of water in the lakes around the courses.
