What the club says: Houldsworth Golf Club extends a warm welcome to All Visitors.
We are located some two miles from the centre of Stockport and 5 miles from Manchester City centre.
The 18 hole course is flat parkland with interesting challenging holes to suit all level of golfers. The club was formed in 1910 and the course was redesigned by Dave Thomas in 1993 to include a number of challenging water features including our hardest hole, a 535 yd par 5 with an 'island green'.

Very wet
Course was open when others in the area closed. It was incredibly wet and to be honest should probably have been closed too.Nice layout and friendly welcome in the clubhouse

Superb
Another tricky and testing course that you have to hit fairways on the right side to access greens.Reviewer Rating

Not a bad course
Played here twice now - enjoyable course with some testing holes with water hazards aplenty. Friendly welcome and as part of a society we were well looked after, breakfast was great.Reviewer Rating

good condition well worth a visit
after a period of heavy rain course was wet in patches but nothing to spoil a round. Course very verdant and in superb condition, greens excellent, wet in patches but not sufficient to prevent (tricky) putting. Really enjoyed the day.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 91 Handicap: 29)

Houldsworth GC. A lovely course in an area that defies having a course
Working away, so threw the clubs in the car, just in case. With Storm Ciara having just passed through the north west and the amount of rain over the past couple of months, any course would struggle and have difficulty in allowing a half decent round to be played. Houldsworth though wasn't in too bad a condition. Yes, the course was waterlogged in places, as you'd expect. Yes, you'd expect some mats and temporary tees, but surprisingly, no temporary greens. A warm welcome in the pro-shop from the resident pro, who said to go to the 4th and start your round, as there was a 4-ball just teeing off and a couple of 3-balls ahead of them and the rest of the course was quiet. Well thank you for the advice. There was not another golfer or golfers on the course ahead of me. Fantastic. Loved the walk. Loved the layout and loved the variety of holes. Some undulating fairways, making second or third shots a challenge and plenty of water hazards to make you think. My favourite holes have to be the 13th,14th and 15th. The 13th a sweeping dogleg par 5, with a stream running all down the right and tree-lined on the left. The approach to the green is challenging, as there is a lake short and to the left, and behind the green, with part of the green tucked behind the approach lake. I played the hole into the wind and hit driver,3-wood,3-wood and was still 100 yards from the green. Tough. The 14th is a par 3 over the lake behind the 13th green, into the wind a real tough ask, and great looking hole from the tee. The 15th is a great hole, 90 degree dogleg to the left, with wasteland and a tree forcing you play to the corner of the dogleg, where there is a very large and deep bunker. Big hitters could be tempted to cut the corner, but there are bunkers all round the green, so be aware. A very nice course, in a small suburban area in Stockport, that is really worth a visit. Not a long course, but enough in it to make it enjoyable. Clubhouse was nice and food was good. Practice facilities could do with some investment, but all-in-all, I'll be returning to play in the summer, work permitting. Better, clearer, brighter course signage from the main road would help, as I drove past it.Reviewer Rating
