Highgate Golf Club
Highgate is a wonderful, friendly members’ club opened in 1904. Our 18-holes stretch to 6,000 yards and we are the nearest 18-hole course to central London. Despite being over 100 years old, the existence of the course still raises eyebrows – even amongst those who have lived in the capital for many years and in that respect, Highgate really is London’s best kept golfing secret.
A hilly, tree-lined parkland course, Highgate has just one par 5 and four extremely demanding par 4s, meaning neither the par or SSS of 69 are a pushover. The amateur course record stands at only 3 under par, while the professional record stood at a similar score until 2003, when Matt Deal of Hendon, aided by a hole in one at the 17th, reduced it to 63. Location
Location: The course backs onto the Bishop’s Avenue and is in fact visible from the A1, however there is no access from the A1. It’s best to plan your journey in advance as you may find even in Highgate village you’ll receive blank stares if you ask where the golf course is. It’s best to get onto Hampstead Lane (the principal road on the north side of Hampstead Heath). From there, take Sheldon Avenue, first left will be Denewood Road, where you will find the club car park.
