What the club says: A par 71 (SS70) and par 72 (SS72) for ladies, High Elms Golf Course, features many tree-lined fairways and strategically placed greenside bunkers which call for accurate driving and well placed iron shots. With its large variety of mature trees and excellent layout, High Elms is a public course of outstanding character and quality.
Apart from the normal mental challenges of golf, High Elms Golf Course gives you plenty of other things to think of, uphill and downhill lies, sidehill lies, doglegs and the 13th, unlucky for many regular players. It may only be a 224 yard par 3 from the white tees, but out of bounds left and right, uphill and over 3 bunkers to the green, means that although it is stroke index 2 on the mens card, many believe it to be the hardest hole on the course. Do not be put off though, play it as a par 4 and walk away happy.

Have to carry
High Elms. Doesn't drain very well. Course bans trollies and buggies for approx. 10 weeks through waterlogged ground. Per year. So unless you haven't got a medical condition and are fit to carry I would advise not to pay for years membership. Unless you play 3 or 4 times a week.Reviewer Rating

testing conditions
High Elms has deceptively tight fairways, expecially in Summer..Greens were faster that usual and true.

Awful
And the people who run it don’t care. The fact they can’t be bothered to put different coloured flags on the greens to denote pin position says it all.Reviewer Rating

great potential
The condition of High Elms is not very good this Spring. Fairways are cut unevenly, greens are very slow, bunkers are not maintained.
The course has very interesting par 4's which could be considered as well designed.
Due to the deep, thick rough, a round of golf with the seniors with which I play takes close to 5 hours, which is unacceptable.

Decent course
Shame that all holes off mats, but fairways decent and greens soft but rolling.Couple of temp greens, but work about to start spiking them for summer. So understandable.
Do like the layout and in pretty good nick for a pay and play.

very muddy back nine
There are three fairways on the back nine, 10th,11th and 12th that are unplayable and are very soul and score destroying. The course in general is not in good condition even considering the winter conditions.
