Five Lakes Golf Club
Five Lakes Resort hosts two contrasting and mature 18 hole parkland courses which have gained an enviable reputation in this part of the world.
Lakes Course (Five Lakes Hotel, Golf & Spa)
This course, designed by Neil Coles, is used annually for regional PGA events and was the venue for the Nick Faldo Challenge. The course provides a testing examination for the better player as well as an enjoyable round for all standards. Water features strongly in the overall design of the Lakes Course, coming in to play on ten of the holes.
18 holes. Par 72. 6751 yards. Parkland with lakes.
Links (Five Lakes Hotel, Golf & Spa)
The Links course is renowned for its sweeping fairways and plush greens. With its strategically placed water hazards, sand bunkers and well guarded greens it proves an excellent challenge. Kept in superb condition all year round, the Links is slightly easier than the Lakes but a very enjoyable round nevertheless.
18 holes. Par 71. 6181 yards. Parkland.Contact Information

Lakes - overbooked when I played on a Saturday. Nice course, my round was spoiled by it taking over 6 hours to complete.
Links - was better than the other reviews on here lead me to believe, by no means the greatest course I have played but it was an enjoyable challenge. ps you need to keep an eye on the ball when it leaves the fairways.

I played the links course in winter, and due to the amount of snow in previous weeks the course was very wet. The course is quite flat and open and in dry conditions would be a good scoring course.

very good facilities!
golf...urm... not great, mainly due to condition being very poor, some greens had bird pecked holes in and worm casts i play off 7 but try reading the line.
it is worthy of a round but the condition needs to improve especially as greens are the most important part.
but there were alot of unhappy visitors on our day out.The Course

i agree with all previous comments stay away from the links course and play the lakes course. overall the lakes does provide some great challenges for the golfer that enjoys strong winds and tackling well placed ditches for anyone who tees off around the 200 yd mark.
greens are improving but head this warning they play very fast nothing like the practice putting area. The Course

Links course is absolutely crap. Not worth playing at all. Even for beginners. Don't do it. Lakes course is good though. Greens need work.

This review is purely for the Links Course - extremely poorly kept course. Bunkers full of water, patchy and bumpy greens and the fairways were riddled with puddles - should have been advised that it wasn't worth a penny to play on!!

The Lakes course more than makes up for any disappointment with the Links course and is well worth the effort of playing. Fantastic Greens, Great layout and yes it is difficult but if you enjoy a challenge and dont blame the course for your scoring then you will definitely come back!

Could not believe how poor the Links course. But the Lakes course is better than average and the greens are good. But that Links course is just so unkept. We played in a group of 20 players of various levels and was so disappointed on the first day of 3 when met with this course. To sum it up we spent 3 days playing at 5 lakes and never saw one green staff the whole time. Just play the Lakes course people

Played the links course for £34 on a Sunday morning. The rough was challenging and overal the course wasn't too bad but not too challenging. The greens however were a disaster. I am a member of Colchester and so maybe spoilt but the greens were very patchy. £34 to play this course was a rip off compared to other courses in the area.

Attended a golf weekend over the 15th/16th Nov and played initally on The Lakes course. Found this to be a good test with many hazards present to punish the wayward shots. Thought the back 9 was better. Later played the Links and this is obviously neglected during the winter as the greens were not swepted, the tees were in quite bad condition and most of the bunkers were unraked and submerged in water. Would probably not be a bad course in the dryer summer months but pretty bland and uneventful overall and would only play The Lakes if I went there again.

Very humid day when I played my last round and was overheating which affected the last few holes. However, the course was having it;s finally preparations before the EuroPro Event the following week and was in excellent condition.
