Good condition considering
No trolleys, damp in places but no standing water. All Bunkers GUR. Advised that tricky in rough and as soon as ball dropped in there it was difficult to find. Very tufty rough. Tees in good condition and greens need a cut but the rain has caused growth and all green v slow.Reviewer Rating

The golf courses were both unfortunately really wet, (despite two glorious days of sunshine and 15 degree temperatures in November) so my feet were soaking despite waterproof shoes, after just a couple of holes.
The food for the main evening meal was quite basic - and just warm rather than hot. Breakfast however, was excellent, with huge amount of choice.
I'd certainly return but probably not so late in the year.

Great courses, not so great accommodation.
Two great courses, greens were immaculate and pretty difficult. Golf staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel accommodation is dated, food was okay but bedroom quilts were awful, shower overflowed and one member of evening bar staff was rude and obnoxious.Reviewer Rating

Challenging but fair
We played both courses and each was in very good condition. The staff of the golf centre and the hotel were all most helpful and friendly and the rooms were very comfortable and spacious. All the food was excellent.Reviewer Rating

Recovering from course maintenance
Played the West Course at ESN 3 days after it re-opened following course maintenance. Found it to be in far better condition than anticipated with greens running relatively true apart fro the odd bobble. Obviously take a couple of weeks to recover fully, but nevertheless in a good playable condition.Reviewer Rating

Trying to be something it’s not
I’ve played at ESN many times and enjoy the courses but it’s clinging onto the fact it hosted some European tour events 30 years ago and still thinking they can charge £££ for average condition golf courses however today I encountered rules I thought were long gone in golf. I arrived with my 14 year old daughter who is now showing an interest in golf so I thought we’d go to the range at ESN and maybe use the excellent practice facilities. I went into the pro shop to buy a token and was looked up and down and told I had to be wearing proper golf attire to use the range?! I was wearing a t-shirt and golf shorts but apparently for ESN that’s not good enough. When I asked why I was told ‘that’s the rules’ in a way that’s suggests that’s common practice for any driving range. I’ve played golf all over the world at some excellent venues and NEVER heard of that. I played at Gleneagles last week and used the range whilst wearing a similar outfit and they couldn’t have been more friendly yet this time pot dinosaur of a club doesn’t want to promote golf as a fun, relaxed sport for everyone, it wants to think this is still the 1970s and we should all be wearing plus 4’s and jackets. Such a shame I wasn’t allowed to practice with my daughter. I will never go back.Reviewer Rating

West
I played the West today after enjoying the East course yesterday. I preferred the West and can see why it's the Members course. Both courses are similar in length and style but the West is more of a test, narrower, more trees, holes are bit more interesting and you feel it's just a slightly better course. Good drives are required on certain holes in order to keep your ball.Reviewer Rating
