Friendly members
New to the area so wanted to take golf up again. I played behind a few very friendly members from Easthampstead Gc who play at the course / complex, they were very friendly and asked if I'd like to join them as the course was playing slow, I expected this as it was a Sunday and I was on my own. The course conditions were good, the greens were in good condition with some tricky pins. The only negative were the bunkers unfortunately with not enough rakes and plenty of footprints in them. After the round I stayed for drinks with the members and we had a good chat. They seem to know the bar staff very well and over all it felt like a very family friendly club. Once I find my game again I'll look to join the club.Reviewer Rating

Many thanks to the starter
Turned up to play by myself on a weekday about 3 weeks ago, and found I was due to go out behind a society.Starter very kindly suggested I start at the 10th and he'd get me back out onto the front nine.
Very grateful, as turned what I suspect would have been a 5+ hour round into one completed in about 3 hours (and score correspondingly a lot better than it would have been with a lot of waiting). Course very dry as expected, but tees and greens excellent.

Not great
Fairly short course took over 5 hours to play on a saturday. The greens are not very good and the sand in the most bunkers is more like cat litter.Reviewer Rating

I personally like this course which is quite challenging , at the present time the greens need work on them and there are still two holes needing to be played off the mats which shouldn't really be the case by now, overall average in condition.

Breezy Round!
Course is in reasonable condition, greens not quite as good as they used to be, but good enough. As ever, a slow round! It seems that mid week afternoon rounds are slowest of the week!Reviewer Rating

Pleasantly Surprised
One always gets a bit snobby when you are invited to play on a council owned course. Downshire ticked a lot of boxes, staring with a very warm welcome for breakfast which was very good. Pleasant staff in the fairly well stocked pro-shopand finally a cheery welcome back with the usual golf club lunch fayre, which again was well cooked and reasonably priced.Onto the course, always nice to see the greenkeeping staff working on the course. it is not an easy track with a fair amount of ditches, streams and lakes, worth doing your research before you play or having a decent GPS with you. You could be critical of the tee boxes that were a bit scruffy all the way round. Green were also a bit 'patchy' but given the dry weather most greens that I have played on recently could do with a good soaking. The course layout, although not that long there are some tricky holes with well placed bunkers to catch the unwary. These bunkers do have good, proper sand in them, still could not get out of them however! Also there is the water and ditches to be aware of.
The difficulty of the course was reflected in the score with nobody really taming the track.
Value for money it was great. Considering that it probably gets a lot of rounds played on it it does hold up better than expected.
Would I play it again - yes.

Good course at Downshire
Despite the weather having been wet for a number of days the course was in good condition. The greens are the weakest point but that is a relative situation as they used to be excellent, now they are not quite that good.Reviewer Rating

good course
Enjoyed the round today. The course was driest I can remember and the greens were quick and tricky and took a long time to get used to! Very good value compared to comparable courses.Reviewer Rating
