2010 Beautiful, Monty Madness, Roman Pity
We played all three courses over three days in July 2023, starting with the Montgomery. On this course the starter was absent at 4pm so we received no card for the course as they had none in the golf shop (ridiculous). Our range of golf apps were all wrong for the course, but after nine holes of fun we nipped into the pro shop to be told that in 2022 they swapped the back nine for the front nine because of COVID. Anyone with any sense can see that os a terrible decision given the layout, plus Covid has gone and they have no entry on the England Golf WHS app as a result. Great decision. By the way the course is fantastic, but the hardest walk (I carried) you will ever come across. Its geared towards buggies which are ?55 each and have to stick to the left hand roads in wet weather, so four balls take an age to play each hole. Play it, its worth it even with these issues. The 2010 was next, you certainly feel special and looked after as you arrive and your clubs are taken down to the tee, you are then in a bus down to the starter who gives you a bit of history and tips. The course was immaculate and the greens amongst the hardest i have ever played. The run offs into water and grass bunkers are everywhere, even the fairways camber towards water so you think its a good shot, then plop. At the end you get a bag tag with your name on it, lovely touch and the guys there are brilliant. Worth every penny. The last course was the Roman Road one, still a lovely layout but it does not get the love and attention of the others, a real pity as it has some beautiful holes. Its definitely the 3rd best of the three, but I liked it. As you near the end the holes get significantly better probably because they are all viewable from the road and car parks. Overall a lovely golf venue. Do not bother with the five star hotel where we stayed, its not worth the money they charge. Stay at the Holiday Inn over the road and pay online for the golf, will save you hundreds. Given all that the weather was rubbish so I doubt I will make the four hour journey again, as its as quick to get to Portugal where the sun shines.Reviewer Rating

A real test
Saw some reviews for early May and feared the worst... but after a few weeks dry weather I can say the course was in top nick. The greens were a real challenge, very quick and true. Not comparable to your average club and took most of the round to adapt (but I loved that). Purchasing a course guide is a must as hitting the right part of the green is essential with there being lots of run off areas... some straight into water! Hit the right part and your ball is running 20 ft towards the hole, which was a real buzz. The opening holes lacked a bit of personality. I just remember lots of bunkers. But the course got better and better with each passing hole.
My only negative that you can only warm up 30 mins before your tee time. This really isn't enough if you want to get up to speed with the greens and then hit balls. It was just enough of the excuse I needed to hit a high number.

2010 poor condition, Roman Round better
Played 2010 and Roman Road.2010 first. Fairways were in a poor condition & soggy. If you hit the fairway then your ball was likely to be plugged and difficult to find, if you missed the fairway then impossible to find! Aiming for the sand was your best option. Too many water features too. Never lost so many balls in one round.
Roman Road was better and a fairer challenge.
Anyway it’s ticked an ambition of the list but disappointed in the condition of the courses.

Most disappointing was the twenty ten course. For a PGA course the drainage was not as good as some council course played onReviewer Rating

4 ball voucher wow
Buggies booked, breakfast at Golden Arches and we are ready to use the 4-ball voucher I got from club fitting. Amazing course, generous fairways, cracking views and best greens I’ve played on. Quick and true!Reviewer Rating

Mud bath
Course should be closed. Dangerous out there. Walking from your buggy to go and find your ball on the fairways was a complete mud bath...then trolleys going down the fairways have completely ruined what is a great challenging course.Just need closure for a while..but they want your money and then sting you £55 for a buggy!

Was really looking forward to the expereince of playing the Ryder cup venue, and arriving at the facility I felt like it was going to be a secial day. the welcome at te club house is great, the changing rooms with all the previous winners names and the ryder cup teams was great to see, it felt historic! Your clubs are shipped down to the course, and waiting for you at te range. the range is great, its open and you can hit off the grass. theres a chipping green with well maintained bunkers and a huge putting green. theres a photographer at the first tee who took a pic of the group and one of each of us mid flow through our tee shot.I was over the moon with my highly anticipated tee shot... split the fairway with a sgood a shot as I could hit... then I fell out with the place. My ball disappeared. the first of 6 that I lost in themiddle of the fairway, the ball just lodged in the turf and disappeeared under ground. It became a real slog... 6 hours through mud. the buggies were only allowed on the path for good reason but it meant that you had to walk ages to your ball (if you could find it).
Its a stunning venue, the scenery is spectacular and some of the holes are beautiful and the challenge would be tough but fair, were it not for the fact its buolt ona river bed! Its very long for an average player. This place feel like a premium golfing experience until you ste foot on the course. Our round at the end of April will not be the last one to play in these conditions, as it will take weeks if not monts to recover. A sunny day at the end f August would present a very different experience but I would not recommened anyone playing this unless they know its been dry for a good few weeks. Not a lot of fun Im afraid.
Played the montgomery course the nex day (5 hours+), a much more interesting little course, but again unplayable in these conditions.
I understand that they cant cancel everyone but some sort of offering or acknowledgement of the awful condition would have gone a long way... a few sleeves of balls would have been nice!

We played Sunday 30th April and May 1st. The Mongomery and Roman Roads. Both courses should not be open. They are rediculously wet and boggy.Several lost balls that clearly landed in the fairways. Dangerously slippery all over the courses. You kind of expect to play golf in Wales in the rain, however the courses are being ruined by people using trollies. The hotel is massivley overpriced for food and drinks, even if it is a resort course.
The hotel rooms, driving range and club shop were very good, and good value for money.

Great golf course
Superb golf course set in very nice scenic surroundings. Very wet weather made it extremely difficult with soggy fairways but the greens and tee boxes were in great shape in spite of all the recent rainsWell worth a visit

Does not live up to expectation
Admittedly it was very wet underfoot / almost waterlogged which didnt help the experience. But overall a disappointing course given the cost of the green fee. There are many many courses better than this for the price, id save your money unless you are desperate to play a ryder cup course! And they try and take money off you at every opportunity, even parking!Reviewer Rating
