Carnoustie Golf Links
Links Parade, Carnoustie, Tayside, DD7 7JE United Kingdom
Buddon Course
The Buddon Links Course has been extensively remodelled to make it more enjoyable for the average golfer, although some of the holes would not be out of place on the Championship Course.
18 holes. Par 66. 5400 yards. Links.
Burnside Course
The Burnside Course is ideal for golfers looking for slightly less of a challenge, shorter than its big brother and a great introduction to the exciting world of links golf.
18 holes. Par 68. 6020 yards. Links.
Championship Course
Host to the Open six times, the Championship Course has been voted the top course in Scotland by many of the golfing greats and has been described as Scotland's ultimate golfing Challenge. The 1999 Open captured the public's imagination as some of the game's greatest players floundered, and will always be remembered for Jean van de Velde's disastrous last hole where he let slip a three stoke lead to lose to Paul Lawrie in the play-off.
18 holes. Par 72. 6941 yards. Links.Book a Tee Time

just back from playing the championship course for the 2nd time.
course in excellent condition again, greens were good condition but a little bit slower than they were the last time i played but ok cos there were some tough pin positions which could have seen a lot of balls running of greens. lol.
seniors open gets played there in 2 or 3 weeks
all said, a great test of golf.
love this course.

I'm just back from playing Carnoustie this weekend, I went with 6 other friends and we all took the 3 round package for an amazing £165.
Buddon - A fantastic short course, lots of fun par 3's and a great introduction to links golf. I actually enjoyed it more than the Burnside but that was most likely down to the weather. The condition was superb exactly what I'd expected at Carnoustie.
Burnside - We played this in gale force winds which made it challenging to say the least however did not take away from the enjoyment, condition wise it was again spot on, fast true greens. Many of the holes, especially 9,14 and 17 would not have looked out of place on the Championship course.
Championship Course - Stunning! It was every bit as good as I'd imagined it would be and fair to boot as the rough was well down (or so I though) when we played it which helps. The rough being reasonable meant that play although not fast was consistent and all 7 of us enjoyed our round.
The atmosphere around the place was great due to the history of the place and everything had a qualify feel. The free stroke saver and pitch mark repairer, tees, pencil and bag given to you before you start is a nice touch too.
We stayed locally in Hawthorne Cottage self catering so I cant say about the hotel facilities. Our trip cost us just over £200 for golf and accommodation and in that respect it cannot be beat for value when you consider what you're getting.
The only negative I have about the place was a lack of driving range?!? At Carnoustie, an open venue!! I couldn't quite believe it. There is a practice area near to the Burnside course but you have to use your own balls and how can you collect them if there are 2 or 3 folk hitting driver at you? Strange. Apparently there is no proper range as the members do not want the noise.... strange when its next to an army firing range. That said we went to a Range locally at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club which was ideal and about 15 mins away.
I would and will return many more times hopefully.

Burnside course. Well maintained links course with all the difficulties that entails. Lots of bunkers, gorse and of course the burns to navigate. £35 a round is not bad when you consider the price of the championship course.

Played in June 2009 and the experience was fantastic. The whole atmosphere to the place makes you feel that you are somewhere special. The course was in excellent condition although the greens looked like they were taking a lot of punishment. Rough was tough as you would expect. Some fantastic holes with Hogan's Alley, Southward Ho, Spectacles and Island standing out. I was even happy to hit into one of the Spectacles bunkers and get out the front way in one shot (unlike lower handicap partners who took 2/3). The three finishing holes are better than they look on TV - and I scored lower than Van de Velde at the last, even after topping my drive 30 yards into the rough (recovery wood was a peach!). At £130 a round it wasn't cheap but it will only get more expensive!

this is the toughest test i have ever had. my target was to break 100 and i managed a 93. i shall target 90 next time out. the course is in brilliant condition considering the rain that has fell during august. the greens were like lightening compared to what i am used to although there were quite a few pitch marks not repaired properly. the rough is hard going if you miss the fairways i had a few bad holes because of hacking out the rough.
we were bang on 4 1/2 hours which we expected for a 4 ball. we were signed on by a member hence the excellent for value for money

The Burnside is the 2nd course at Carnoustie and proves challenging in different ways to the Buddon. It has more water and straignter drives are required with more accuracy. With tricky par 3's that require accurate tee shots to raised greens. This course is fantastic value for money.

Best course I have played, but haven't yet sampled any of the other 'biggies. Too many highlights to pinpoint one, but great to play it just before the Open.
