Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort Reviews & Information

What the club says: Working with the natural beauty of majestic rolling parkland, with a wealth of mature trees and lakes, Thomas' brief was to create a course to be enjoyed by all who wished to play. With a range of tees on every hole, the higher handicapped golfer is not overwhelmed by too difficult a course, yet from the back tees in events which include the European Challenge Tour Championships, even the greatest from the professional ranks find this stunning course a challenging test of their skills.

Played the course today and can\'t be more impressed. I have played all of the courses in the locality and can rate this extremely highly. The course is a true test of ability and the greens certainly provoke thought. The only negative is the cost of golf and cost of buggies etc. As I don\'t have the opportunity to play excellent courses, such as this, every week this was certainly classed as a \"treat!\"

Brilliant course in superb condition. Our group played it three times in three days and still wanted to carry on, never got bored. Have to think your way round but lots of options on every hole for all abilities. Great fun to play.

Course was in good condition, very fast and true greens. Long for a mid handicapper, and many dog legs. You need to draw and fade well to get a good score. Rough was very tough!

The course after a difficult winter where the greens and fairways were starting to look rough, is now returning to its former glory.

Greens improving rapidly. Lots of unrepaired pitch marks on greens. Lack of rakes in bunkers. Apart from that...........Tops

A real gem of a course. Kept in immacualate condition when we played (July 2012). There are virtually no weak holes on this layout, and the par 5's are exceptional.

Very much American in design with the front of the greens being protected by bunkers and therefore requiring to fly the ball all the way to the putting surface.

We paid £115 for a 36 hole stay and would have paid a lot more.

I would rate this as a superior version to Hanbur Manor and St. Pierre.

The condition of this course has improved considerably after a difficult winter and spring which saw the fairways and greens in very poor condition. The increase in society golf has seen an increase in unrepaired divots, pitchmarks and unraked bunkers.

However played this course on Friday and it was back towards its best. The fairways and greens have improved massively and it is now back as one of the best courses in the County of Wiltshire.

The best ?? That's easy..............Castle Coombe. Its a must.

I know it was early in the season but some of the greens were in a poor condition. that said it is set in lovely surroundings and worthy of a visit.
