What the club says: This spectacular 18 hole golf course is situated within the exclusive new golf village development of Great Denham, near the county town of Bedford. The course measures 6,478 yards, par 72 for men and 5,357 yards, par 72 for the ladies. It boasts the largest teeing areas within the region, well manicured fairways, 89 American style bunkers, eight lakes and undulating Augusta style USPGA greens.

The course designer David Potteridge was clearly influenced by the likes of Augusta National when he designed The Bedford, and it still retains its entire wonderful green fairways superb white bunker sand, immaculate greens, and gleaming water hazards some ten years from opening.

get there now

This course is due to shut on 16th October so if you want to play it you have 14 days. A flat but not uninteresting course I have enjoyed for the last 12 years as a member I am sad to see it go.

Sadly, this course is probably closing at the end of this year for housing development. It will be sorely missed by golfers, joggers and dog walkers in the Bedford area.

As tricky as you make it

Nice course, just recovering from lockdown neglect. Tees and greens in excellent condition, fairways dry/burnt and lumpy: although, this does give you greater distance, than normal, either the carry.

Enjoyable course in good condition

My friend and I played at The Bedford in October 2019 following a few days of incessant rain. The course drains extremely well so the course was in remarkable condition considering the recent wet weather. The course is pretty flat so is not a hard course to negotiate. It has a few interesting holes and is a reasonable test of golf. The bunkers were in very good condition - I should know as I visited six of them during my round! In the clubhouse we found the food to be very good - as we have always done. All in all, a good place to play a round of golf and eat in the clubhouse afterwards.

Flat and fairly forgiving.

The course is flat and most of the greens are raised so the drainage is good and it is unusual to have 'frost' greens. It can get very wet at the furthest point from the clubhouse ( holes 5,6,13,14 and 15) but it is almost always possible to play at least part of a round.

I get to play this course regularly because our club play them in matches, but this was the first time playing it with a Society I have recently joined. Quite a few in our Society are not enamoured with the course, so not all wanted to play there. In the end, the course was in quite good order, although as usual the greens seemed to be very hard, so it was impossible to stop the ball on a full shot in for anyone who couldn't hit the ball as hard as the pros do!! Bunkers were fairly good, although the ones I saw needed raking. Fairways suffered badly in the heat of 2018, and have not recovered. Full English breakfast was part of our deal, and the food was good, although not much of it.

Not bad , pretty windy open course

Excellent greens first of all. Fairways got killed last summer and the course is still trying to recover.
