Ashton-in-Makerfield Golf Club
Ashton-in-Makerfield, Garswood Park, Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire, WN4 0YT United Kingdom
9 holes were built in the mid 1960's. This was well established parkland with mature trees and a grand display of beautiful flowers during certain months of the year, making the course an even more pleasant place to be. An additional 9 holes were built at the start of the 1980's and the course now stands at 6205 yds from the white tees.

Back 9 much easier than opening 9. Greens are superb in general and you have to think your way around the course with some great holes. Course knowledge helps, as does the ability to shape your shots due to dog legs. Lots of birdie chances if you put yourself in position. Longest approach I had to hit was 6 iron and thats with an average drive of 250ish. Would 100% recommend. Great facilities. Only down side is womens day on a Wednesday I think, nothing worse than being stuck behind a group of them thinking they are Annika Sorenstam!!

Ashton is a superb club. The front nine are testing, while the back nine, being flatter are still a challenge for golfers of all standards .. The Club facilities and shop are both excellent. This is a course everyone will find both challenging and a joy to play.

Testing Greens and challenging fairways make it a good test for any golfer. The course is extremely well maintained and the club house is well appointed.

Played with a member for 12£
Not sure green fee was 27£ last year for day ticket
Course has some very tricky holes helps if you
can shape ball flight both ways.

Super course, played mid May. A couple of greens are struggling with disease, but should be easily fixed. Contrasting front and back nines (the original holes), with the back being rather short but challenging and very well laid out, reminding me of Ormskirk in some respects. Front nine felt as though they'd been shoehorned into a tiny plot of land. Some of the tees were a bit uneven, but not game breakingly so. Clubhouse is very good, changing facilities exceptional, and the car park is large and secure. Will definately play here again.
