What the club says: Nestled in 170 acres of Hertfordshire parkland, Aldwickbury Park Golf Club offers a challenging 18 hole main course, a delightful 9 hole course and practice facilities.
I run a golf day from Aldwickbury every summer and have just completed our 10 year anniversary back in August. The course never lets us down and is in my opinion one of the best kept courses in Hertfordshire. The greens are immaculate, fairways in great condition and general value unbeatable.
The staff are always wearing a smile and happy to help and go the extra mile to make the day run as smoothly as possible.
Aside from the beautiful golf course the food at this club is second to none and as good as any top class restaurant I have been to. I highly reccomend a round of golf at Aldwickbury followed by an evening meal in the spacious and extremely comfortable restaurant / bar area.
I am already looking forward to my next round of golf here and also making arrangements to book In My next golf day. See you very soon!!
The whole setup, nets, green, par 3, clubhouse is very good. In my view the course does have some minor shortcomings, it's too short and wide for single figure players, the 14th has always needed a rethink, both the uphill par 5's could do with a tweak, and it is a tough walk. The greens aren't just quick, they are extremely slopey, had trouble replacing balls a couple of times.
Really, though, this course gets the maintenance right any time of year. I have never seen any element in less than good condition. On current form I'd have to say top 10 in Hertfordshire. Very impressive
Due to play here in a society day in a couple of weeks so having never played here, I thought I better have a look and see what we are in for. Now before I wax lyrical about the course, facilities and hospitality I want to make one thing clear. There are bargains to be found as re the green fees at Alwickbury....but its a bit of a pain to find them (Ultimately worth it though). Here's what I did, hopefully it will help. Too take advantage of the online booking discount (and its a significant saving), you need to set up a "Visitor" account on the clubs website. Its straight forward and easy to do but the negative is that it will only give you the option of booking 7 days in advance. That's pretty much the only negative though. However, if you can spend the 5 mins to set up the visitor account, its a worthwhile exercise for those online savings. Now onto the course itself. We arrived for 2pm tee off and got there a bit earlier for a quick bite and a look around. The clubhouse has a lovely patio area at the back of the eating area that affords a lovey view of the 18th green and the bar manager had been busy that morning getting rid of excess water on all the tables and laying out the seat cushions (It had hammered with rain the day and night before). He took time to welcome us to the course and asked if we had played there before and gave us a bit of a run down of course conditions and generally made us very welcome. (Sandwiches were tasty too). We checked into the pro shop and hired our buggy and picked up a course guide (invaluable in my opinion), and headed round to the putting green adjacent to the 1st tee. (Putting area is small but well maintained and they do have two nets for having a swing too). After a brief putt we hit the first tee. The previous nights rain did little to slow the fairways down, and the greens are also very, very quick. Some pin placements are pretty tricky and there are a number of holes what really get you thinking. The course is in good condition and lacked the brown and scorched fairways that other courses were showing after such a previous hot spell. We were blessed to have the course pretty much to ourselves for much of the round and the other players we met on the round were amiable and pleasantries extended and received by all. The course itself has a real mixed feel to it. Huge, mature trees give a feel of a woodland course on some holes, and then other holes have more of parkland feel. Ultimately though...(and weirdly) there are a number of instances whereby the course almost has a links feel to it. Drainage is obviously not a problem here and some of the views are really nice, but a few pot bunkers and a lot of carry on some holes had me working out how far we were from the coast. In summary, its a great course, with friendly members and staff alike and offers some good chances to score. If you can read your putts well, and play with your ball above or below your feet with confidence, you will really excel here. If you dont concentrate though, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble. Good course. Give it a go.
Hadnt played here for a few years so didnt know what to expect. The course is in excellent condition at the moment, helped by a bit of rain in the last few days. The greens are fanastic, very true and very fast. Would highly recommend it here and will be coming back in due course.

This course is truly outstanding - aside from the great views, the greens are superb and true, the fairways are well maintained and its possible to score some low rounds on this course - even for a high handicapper.
(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 89 Handicap: 24.4)
too crowded - otherwise decent value for money
The greens were very fast, but it hadn't rained properly for 6 weeks
