Hassocks Golf Club
Hassocks Golf Club is situated just a few miles north of Brighton on the A273 between Hassocks and Burgess Hill, in the beautiful Sussex Weald. The 18 hole Par 70 course is set against the backdrop of the South Downs. It has been designed and contoured to blend naturally with the gentle undulations of the surrounding countryside. Opened in 1995, the surprisingly mature layout belies its tender years. With many strategically placed water hazards and bunkers, the course provides an interesting challenge to golfers of all abilities.

I played 18 holes here in mid September taking advantage of their twilight hours offer. The pro shop seemed pretty well stocked and the staff were friendly. Unlike many of the other courses in the area, this is Parkland, not Downsland - for me this meant that the rough was slightly more forgiving and the walk was not too exhaustingly up and down hill!
The plus points were the fairways which were wide so wayward drives were not too heavily punished however there are plenty of water hazards strewn accross the fairways and they will catch you out if you're not paying attention but also created a few exciting tee and second shots. The course is nicely laid out so it's hard to get lost and when I was there it was in very nice condition, good tee boxes well prepared fairways and clearly visible areas of rough.
As a 28 handicapper I really enjoyed my round and I will be back soon but more experienced golfers may perfer something a bit more varied.
