Must Play: Aphrodite Hills

By: Golf Shake | Tue 21 Dec 2010

Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of love is said to have emerged from the waves in this part of Cyprus. Believe it or not what has emerged is the country’s premier golf resort.

Aphrodite Hills is a prestigious five-star sports and leisure resort in the Eastern Mediterranean. Situated in an area steeped in Cypriot culture, it is conveniently located just 15 minutes away from Paphos International Airport.

The award winning resort will provide you with 5* accommodation, and 18-hole championship golf course with its own golf academy, exclusive private beach, nature and bike trails and a variety of bars and restaurants offering a wide selection of international cuisine.

Overlooking the area of Aphrodite you will be drowned in the most tranquil, unspoilt and secluded of surroundings just as the Goddess left it. If you visit Aphrodite Hills it will be a trip that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.

Golf

If it’s just the golf you are visiting for then you certainly won’t be disappointed. The award-winning golf course was officially opened in 2002 and was designed by the acclaimed architect, Cabell Robinson. Robinson believes Aphrodite Hills to be the perfect mix of challenging pot bunkers, manicured fairways of lush Bermuda grass and generous tiered greens.

The first resort of its kind ever in Cyprus, you will be taken aback by the stunning views you get of the Mediterranean as you plot your way around the 6,889 yards of perfection that you won’t want to end. The course is built on two plateaux separated by a dramatic ravine none more so on the par-3 7th as a 140 yard gauge divides the tees, so choose carefully.

The resort also has a dedicated 3-hole golf academy which is run by a team of PGA qualified professionals with all the latest hi-tech equipment, so if it’s just a bit of practice or one-on-one tuition then you can find it at Aphrodite Hills.

Along with the academy you will also find a large double-ended driving range and a short game area including pitching and chipping greens alongside the putting green.

And that is not all, in the middle of all that you will find a magnificent clubhouse and a fully stocked pro shop to fulfil your needs before and after your round.

Accommodation

The resort offers 290 luxury guest rooms and suites or you can rent one of the exquisite holiday villas built around the golf course.

All rooms in the hotel feature private terraces with a pool or garden view and golf course or sea view. Suites also have the option of additional interconnecting rooms, perfect for young families, as well as the choice of an outdoor jacuzzi or a private plunge pool overlooking the beautiful golf fairways and the stunning Mediterranean Sea beyond.

Not content with just the championship golf course? Why not try The Retreat Spa - an ultra-luxurious, award-winning Spa with 27 treatment rooms, Health Club, thermae, pool, sun deck & garden to help take those tensions away.
