La Cala Golf & Spa Resort

La Cala Golf & Spa ResortThe natural features of the La Cala terrain have been used to challenging effect by the renowned golf course architect, Cabell B. Robinson. The three courses are carefully maintained to ensure they are playable all year round. The North Course (now renamed Campo America) is perhaps more difficult than the shorter South (Campo Asia) but both demand great accuracy from the tee and careful club selection. Meanwhile, the third golf course, Campo Europa, uses the River Ojen in making the course distinctive. The layout allows for plenty of water hazards. All three offer different challenges to all levels of golfers and demand good course management in addition to a wide variety of shots.

Kyra van Leeuwen, Professional Dutch Lady at La Cala Resort

Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Mon 08 Mar 2010

During February, the Dutch golf professional, Kyra van Leeuwen re-visited the resort to play a friendly round of golf on Campo America with Jessica Wilcox, La Cala’s up and coming star.  Last year, Jessica was a finalist in both the Faldo Series and in the Daily Telegraph Junior Golf Tournament in Abu Dhabi. (for more details see Mulligan No.27 Jan. 2010 on www.lacala.com)

Kyra van Leeuwen is a 23 years old golf professional from Rotterdam.  Last year she played many tournaments in both the Ladies European Tour and the Spanish Ladies Professional Spanish circuit sponsored by Banesto Private Banking. In fact, Kyra won the opening tournament of the Banesto Ciruit in Madrid.

While Kyra has been playing golf since she was 6 years old, she has also had success in a number of other sports including hockey, tennis and swimming. These other sports have taken a back seat since she was selected for the Dutch national team. In recent years, Kyra also had time to attend Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

Kyra last visited La Cala as an amateur when she participated in the 2005 and 2007 Spanish International Lady Junior Championship organised by the Spanish Golf Federation. This championship returns to La Cala on the 5th to 9th May 2010.

Kyra’s goals this year include a return to the Banesto Tour while also playing in a dozen tournaments in the Ladies European Tour. The first tournament this year of the Ladies European Tour where Kyra will be playing will be on the 18th to 20th of March in the “Lalla Maryem Cup” which will be staged at the Royal Golf Mohammedia in Morocco. Her next competition in Andalucia will be at Novo Sancti Petri in the Banesto Tour from the 8th to 10th of April.

La Cala Resort has always been a supporter of ladies’ golf. In recent weeks, DLGA have been holding classes for ladies every Wednesday 15:00 – 17:00 hrs for only €15 for 2 hours in a group class for all levels of players. We wish both young ladies every success in their future careers.
