Well known as the playground for the rich and the famous, Marbella’s cosmopolitan attitude mixed with Andalucian traditions and hospitality make it the perfect holiday destination.

And when you add to that the tremendous amount of golf courses in the area, why would you want to go anywhere else?

Los Monteros Spa & Golf Resort is situated in the Costa del Sol, which is often know among golfers as the “Costa del Golf,” as it has the highest concentration of golf courses in the whole of Andalucia. Marbella also has the “Golf Mile,” as 20 of the 63 courses in the province of Malaga fall in the Marbella region.

The Golf

As previously mentioned, finding a round of golf in Marbella won’t be a problem as there are just so many golf courses. Take a look at which premium courses you can include as part of your package with Golfbreaks.com. It is worth taking note that the Los Monteros operates a shuttle bus service to Santa Clara, Marbella Golf & Country Club and Rio Real.

Marbella Golf & Country Club

Marbella Country Club

The course at Marbella Golf & Country Club was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and provides one of the most challenging golfing experiences on the Costa del Sol. The surrounding hills, olive groves and magnificent sea views provide a breath-taking backdrop to the course and clubhouse.

The clubhouse offers a stylish restaurant with an innovative menu featuring local seasonal ingredients that are prepared fresh daily. If you’ve struggled on the course, you will almost instantly feel at ease as you relax on one of the two shaded terraces.

Santa Clara

Santa Clara Golf is set to become one of the finest golf courses in the Costa del Sol. The course has been created with respect for the natural environment, indigenous wildlife and vegetation. The course is straightforward and offers a pleasant experience thanks to the wide fairways, few rough areas and greens without pronounced slope - perfect for the warm weather golfer.

The course only opened in 2001 but has grown in stature ever since. It even has its own version of Amen corner – Santa Clara Corner – at holes 12, 13 and 14. This perfect combination of pars 3, 4 and 5 require golfers to make long and accurate shots in order to score well.

Rio Real

Rio Real

Designed by legendary Spanish golf course designer Javier Arana, Rio Real offers a fantastic test of golf on Marbella’s Golf Mile. The course gets its name from the Rio Real River, which runs alongside and forms an integral part of the course, right up until it reaches the Mediterranean Sea.

The par 72 course measures more than 6,000 metres and is considered by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation to be a prestigious course and one of the best in Spain for both its layout and unique beauty. The course also has a wide variety of different species of trees such as Pine, Palm, Casuarinas, Olive and Cypress.

Other courses you can play include:

• Alcaidesa
• Los Arqueros
• El Chaparral
• El Paraiso
• Miraflores
• Santa Maria
• Atalaya
• Los Naranjos
• Cabopino

What to do?

First of all, it is important to mention that the hotel has its own private beach. La Cabane Beach Club is located right on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and is one of the most elegant and exclusive places on the Costa del Sol. The magnificent panoramic views and its functional and modern design make it the ideal place to relax, before and after a round of golf. In fact, you may find many not bothering to play golf as Club La Cabane is just so relaxing.

The VIP experience is something you must try at Club La Cabane too. This service includes a bottle of champagne, a fruit dish, special amenities, refreshing towels and a personalised service.

Finding places to eat in the resort wont be a problem either, whether it be a snack or three-course meal, with three restaurants to choose from.  Bar Azul is located in front of the hotel’s swimming pool and here you can enjoy a coffee or cold drink along with snacks and salads from the menu. The Sports Bar shows the best sporting events, so you can watch while enjoying an ice-cold beer with friends.

The El Corzo Restaurant has been open since 1963 and still offers a culinary experience of the highest level to this day. The traditional Mediterranean cuisine combined with a modern and innovative touch makes it the perfect place to base your evening. To add, this was the first hotel restaurant in Spain to receive a Michelin star.

Finally, the Flamingo Restaurant has a large dining room and summer terrace for guests to enjoy breakfast and lunch. The menu here has a large variety of meat, fish, salads and pasta.

Unwind in the Los Monteros Spa where you will find a series of thermal treatments, body and facial therapy and massages. The Thermal Circuit consists of a seawater swimming pool heated at 33 degrees, where you can relax in the hydromassge beds and receive the benefits of water jets, which are especially good at alleviating muscular strain and tension.

One unique offering from the resort is that they can offer you a “Low-calories Stay” during which you can lose weight healthily without being hungry thanks to a team of professionals. The diet is based on natural products of the highest quality and dishes elaborated by the hotel’s chef, an expert in healthy cooking.

When you aren’t lounging around on the private beach or on the golf course, you may find yourself in some of the finest watering holes in the world, or clubbing until the early hours. The centre of the town is always bustling but if you’re looking to go a little bit more up-market, you should make your 15-minutes outside the town to Puerto Banus.

Puerto Banus is known as the playground for the rich and the wealthy. The shops and restaurants reflect the expensive lifestyle, with plenty of designer shops offer. If sports cars and big boats are your thing, this is the place to be, as well as being able to spot some A-list celebrities.

How to get there?

First of all, if you are travelling from the UK, most airports service Malaga Airport.  From there you can get a transfer into Marbella town or you can hire a private taxi. Alternatively, you can hire a car. The best way from the airport is on the N-340/A7 road, which runs parallel to the coast and is toll free.
